Display problem The display on my SX-4000 will not clear. It has "R"s across the screen each with a line above them.

The screen voltage to the picture tube is more than normal. Adjust it by the help of screen pot-meter integrated with Line Output Transformer. Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Check this link and select the site named above. View it in 'Flip card' option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu at the left top corner or the display window. It will make search easy.

Display might need service, but my best hunch is that you can still type with it. Also, reset your left & right margins!

This is not clear enough either you set up dual screen mode or your screen broke and displaying a line across the screen which most likely either bad cable connection or something broken. If it is a dual screen mode than you have to right click on desk top and go to properties and modify it to single screen.

If you are asking how to download to a computer file or a storage device, there is not a way without a major modification to your hardware (commonly known as a HACK to the device). Brother did not include a way to download from memory to a computer file.On the other hand, if you want to print what you have on the LCD screen you are typing in display mode. There are 2 typed of display modes (Line by line, and Auto) The way to print in display mode is;

1. Press return if you are in Line by line.
2. Type a complete page with and the machine will add the return when you reach the Right Margin.

To determine what mode you are in, on the right side of the display you will see the operate section (see attached diagram) . If the triangle is pointing up you are in "Auto Return", if it is pointing down you are in "Line by Line" mode. If you don't see a triangle it should type as a normal typewriter (each letter as soon as you type it). To toggle through the modes hold the ALT key and press the OPERATE key. The keys that are activated by the ALT are color coded (same color as the ALT key) and are across the top of the keyboard.

Sounds like the Data Ribbon is slipping out of the slot on the Motherboard. You should check that first.

The single line means that the vertical deflection doesn't work. And since it is working when you kick the tv or has warmed it's clearly a bad connection - open the case and reseat the wires going to the tube coil.

I was going to ask to define lines, but if you have lines (red, green or white) usually means the screen is dying.

Full lines across the screen (such as in the case of my wife's laptop) mean the screen is dead. In either case, replacing the LCD is in order.

its problem with the display cable (not the one you connect to your pc)
open the lcd display and look for a cable that is attached to the front glass display. check whether it is dameged.. it cannot be replaced
you need to replace the whole display that would be better. and cost effective

you need to open your unit and clean the connection from the lcd to the board of your phone. be careful not to damage some wire of the connector.

Bring up the menu and if the lines are not on the menu replace the small signal board that is your video prossor. If the lines are still the replace the Y main board that contrl the top half of the screen.
