In my experience intel motherboards reboot once ac power has been connected, hold in the power button for a few seconds and it should turn off, or plug in a monitor and see if it is actually trying to boot.

I hope this helps

It should start for a few seconds, the fans should spin and then stop. You should be able to power it up as per normal. If that is no the case then you are having hardware issues which could be the Power supply

The laptop is going off n on continuously without anthing showing on the screen

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

My laptop wont power on, lights come on briefly then shut off. no fan noises or anything

Check the ram memory and se if they are plugged well and working ..leave it work with one at the time if you have more than one module of ram ..and see if this is the issue ..
from what you say it is doing ..sounds to me like a cpu fault .and more likely a fan failure...cause it wants to start but it shuts down as a protection in the moment it detects the fan not working ..So open it up and check the fan ..or replace it ...If this will not solve ..replace the cpu

Hi,
Please check if all the cables are plugged in properly and also make sure that when you press the power button the cpu fan is running or not, if the cpu fan is running please check if you are getting any kind of display or logo of the manufacturer. If the fan is not running please check the power cable and the wall outlet, if the wall outlet is ok then the cpu fan has gone bad.
If the cpu fan is running then try reseating the memory( ram ) or changing the slots of the memory( ram ). If you need further assistance and you are technically savvy to some extent i can let you know how to troubleshoot the power supply damage and other related issues.

Hope it helps
Thanks and Regards

when you say no fan you mean the cpu fan or the case fan. the cpu fan is on top the cpu. make sure that at least this starts. if it does not start then shut down your pc immediately as it can burn the cpu.
it could be lots of reasons, but make sure that you have connected the power supply cables correctly to the motherboard. probably the motherboard may have a small led. check if that lights up. it means that power gets to the motherboard.
i would advice to find someone that has more knowledge.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

You got some short on board, You need techguy. Or possible Bios flash, Remove the Harddisk and press the power button.
If nothing change, Remove power, battery, cd rom, Hdd, memory.

Then put one stick of memory, power up, see anything comes up.If does, power off, put the other memory plug in power, fire up.
If does ok. Then plug off, and put hdd without CD rom. see if it did work.

If none is worked as I say you have short or CPU fan is not functioning.
Goodluck.

take out CPU and switch it on - do you get the same behaviour?
If so then CPU is probably wrong sort - check model of mainboard and CPU.
If behaviour is differnt then fit CPU and remove ram - if it beeps then CPU is working. Replace RAM and disconnect ALL other devices (hard disk, CD, front panel connect cable, reset button) just leave fans and power plugged in. now short out two pins for power on switch and see if it starts up.
