My Viewsonic VW2439WM dual display monitor now has a green tint when displaying my D-Sub input from my PC. I changed the VGA-VGA cable with no change. If I connect to the PC via HDMI, however, the colors...

VW? what is this VW? prefix? VX or VG is common,
Im guessing VX
the manual has no word "dual" in it,so that is perplexing.
are you attempting dual displays on 1 PC, (unstated PC)
yes, /no
the VX has 3 inputs ports, dvi, vga and HDMI
i guess the VGA port fails.
why not use VGA to DVI adapter, even as a test. dirt cheap too.

why not test any monitor on 2 PC'S Not just 1.
then you learn if the monitor is good or bad, in one simple step.?
why ask this? you told me HDMI works so why not use HDMI.
or does the VGA port must work for other computers, we dont know how any one uses monitors, the possibles are endless.
even as service monitor, ok?

if the VGA fails on 2 PCs, (it spec resolution) the port is bad.
RGB,
did you reset the monitor first, do the OSD reset stated in the manual. sure worth a shot that....

What is the best way to connect 2 computers to this monitor

If you have two separate computers for different purposes, such as personal and work use, you may find it convenient and necessary to connect both to a single monitor. Many monitors have dual inputs, making such a connection simple. However, you might need a keyboard, video and monitor switch to accomplish this task if the monitor lacks a second input. Dual Inputs
Step 1 Examine the back of your monitor for the presence of dual video inputs, such as a single VGA and DVI or HDMI output.
Step 2 Connect the VGA cable to one computer. Plug the other end of the cable to the matching input on the monitor. Rotate the retaining screws until tight at both ends of the cable.
Step 3 Plug the DVI or HDMI cable into the back of the second computer. Insert the other end into the monitor's digital video input. Screw down the retaining screws if you're using DVI.
Using a KVM Switch
Step 1 Ensure both computers are turned off. Place the KVM switch on your desk where it is within convenient reach.
Step 2 Locate the video output port on the back of the KVM switch. Plug a VGA cable into this port. Plug the other end of the VGA cable into the monitor.
Step 3 Plug the VGA monitor outputs from each computer into the inputs on the back of the KVM switch. Tighten the retaining screws down for each connected VGA cable on the computers and the KVM switch.
Step 4 Plug the keyboard and mouse cables into their respective outputs on the KVM switch. Plug each set of keyboard and mouse cables from their ports on each computer into the matching inputs on the KVM switch. Plug each cable in sequentially to avoid mixing them up between machines.
Step 5 Double-check that the mouse, keyboard and monitor cables leading from each computer all correspond to the right machine. Plug the KVM switch's power cord into a nearby AC outlet or power strip.
Step 6 Turn the computers and monitor on to verify the connections are correct.

Required Items

  • VGA cable
  • DVI or HDMI cable
  • KVM switch
  • Power strip (optional)

I need to plug an HP f2105 monitor into an HP elitebook laptop

Elitebook has a vga port with is 15 pins. If the monitor only has DVI you can get a VGA-to-DVI-A cable. They are cheap and available on monoprice.com Make sure the monitor supports DVI-A

Make sure to check the DVI port on the monitor for the wide horizontal pin with two small pins on top and two underneath. See pic below.

I have a dell dimension 3000, bought a new HP 2310E monitor with 3 ports. DVI, HDMI & display port. Told to buy a cable with VGA to connect to dell and DVI to connect to HP Monitor display port....

Hi sshorne9780,

I see that you are having a check input error on the Monitor/LCD that your are connecting to your Dell tower, please see steps below.

  • On your HP 2310E make sure that your HP is set to the input/source that you are using and make sure that you only use one type of video cable for the issue.
  • I see that you mentioned that you have a VGA cable and a DVI cable, you can only use one type of cable for a video connection.
  • VGA would be the Blue tipped cable connecting to the tower and going to the LCD monitor.
  • DVI this is a black cable connecting to a white port much bigger than a VGA port and is rectangular in shape unlike the VGA
  • moz-screenshot.pngmvincentc_34.jpg
  • and on your LCD monitor check the input type to see video from the tower.
  • everything seems to be OK you just need to change the input of your LCD monitor for the video to show up on the screen.
  • also if you are using HDMI for the video u will need to change the setting of your Audio and set HDMI as the Default to have Audio come out from the HDMI connection together with video, the HDMI viedo will automatically be detected as long as the LCD monitor's input is set to HDMI.
I hope that this will able to help resolve your concern.

Thank you for choosing Fixya,

I want to connect a HP w2207 monitor to a HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC. What is the best way to do this?

Your HP w2207 monitor has support for both VGA and DVI inputs. This therefore means that you can connect your HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC via either of these two connectors.

VGA is the blue coloured port on the rear of your monitor.
DVI is the white coloured rectangular port located on the rear of your monitor.

DVI is the better connection of the two as it is a digital connection, so use this one if you can, alternatively you can use the blue coloured VGA cable to connect your monitor to your computer.

It all depends on which output, either DVI or VGA is found on your Computer. Remember VGA is the Blue coloured port and DVI is the blue coloured port.

All the best!

How do you connect LG W2261 VP Monitor to HP Pavilion 6310uk Desktop

The computer has VGA, DVI-I (dual link) and HDMI ports. The monitor has VGA, DVI and HDMI but only came with a VGA cable. Some computers have recently come with shielding covering all of the ports except the one that is currently live. Thus, check your hardware; the computers I've seen with only one active port, the HDMI port was active before resetting the video options. So get an HDMI cable (it will provide the best signal in addition). If the DVI-I port is currently live, you should get that cable as well and then change the settings to enable the HDMI port.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(you do not need to get the super-expensive cables; the low end ones will be fine. However a single link DVI cable is not the same as a dual link cable; sometimes using the wrong cable leads to no signal to the monitor.)

How to connect Samsung 40" LCD tothe eMachine desktop T2615. It looks like there is only one connection for a monitor? The computer is about 6 years old.

Older LCD TV's have a variety of inputs, one of them being VGA, to connect to your PC. The problem seems to be that you either connect your PC to its own monitor, OR to the TV, but not both? If that's the case, you may have a couple of alternatives:
The most expedient one would be to get a VGA splitter cable; the other, more expensive: replace your video card with one that has dual outputs: either one with two DVI ports; one with one DVI port and one VGA port; or one with one DVI port and one HDMI port. As you can tell, there are several possibilities, depending on the connectors available on your TV.
Good luck!

"No signal detected" when LCD connected with DVI-D Cable

Thank you for providing your configuration details.
You have failed to specify wheather or not your LCD Display is under Warrenty.

Perhaps these simple trouble shooting procedures will get the job done.

1. use the DVI to VGA adaptor that came with your card

Plug in a regular CRT monitor to the Primary Display Output Port using the DVI to VGA adaptor
( either port can be designated as the primary by you )
I like to use the Port nearest to the motherboard as the Primary

2. plug in the your LCD monitor on Secondary Display port using your DVI cable

At this point you should be able to see your desktop on the Primary CRT Display

3. Go to the display properties and use the Nvidia Dual Display Setup Wizard

set both desktops to CLONED at a resolution of 1024x768 and set the refresh to 60Hz
which is default for most LCD displays , some have higher refresh rates , consult your user manuel

If the display resolution and refresh are set incorrectly for your CRT or LCD you will see
Signal Out of Range ( if the display has the ability to display that error message )

At this stage both displays should be showing a Windows Desktop

If you now see your desktop on both displays , you can now put the LCD on the Primary Port

No Signal Detected ( this means the display device is not receiving a signal )

If your LCD display is still displaying the error message
"No Signal Detected" after performing the trouble shooting proceedures
You may need to read the user manuel about how to enable DVI signal input.

If you are certan you have done everything correctly but still see only "No Signal Detected"

Your LCD Display may need replacement
