The chipset is one of the components of the motherboard that works the the "procrssor" and other components to achive a fast and efficient working system. The "software" is developed by the manufacturer to provide the info needed to interrelate with the other components and with your particular operating system. If you need to "update" your chipset software you can do that here:

I will outline how to get your update:
1 Select product family-Click on "Chipset"
2 Select product line-Click on "Desktop chipset
3 Select Product Name-Scroll down to "Intel 845 Series" and select.
You will now enter a new window where you will select your operating system
4 Select an operating system-scroll and pick you o/s.
Once you pick your system. Scroll down to your download and click on it.
The other components of your board may also require periodic updates. The best palce to get those updates is here;

First you need to download the latest version of the chipset software from Asus. Visit the following link and choose your operating system:

Under the "BIOS" dropdown, you will find a download labeled:
"Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility V5.02.1003."
Click on the "Global" link to save the file to your computer.
After it is finished downloading, open the file you downloaded, inside there will be a folder named "inf". Go inside this folder and run the "infins_autol.exe" file by double clicking. From there you can follow the installation wizard.
