HI, I have a whirlpool refridgerator model # ed22gw, It worked fine then 3 days ago it triped the gfci I unplugged and tried different outlets with no other load on them and it would still trip the breaker after only a few seconds ( the fan was working and the light inside) and today I plugged it back in and it is working fine. I dont have a lot of experience working on appliences however with some advice this should be a simple fix. Thanks for any and all info

Yes, Unplug everything, reset the breaker or replace the fuse. Turn items on one at a time, starting with the fridge. Whichever one trips the breaker has a ground fault and needs investigation and repair.

check water line is open, check filter seated properly,make sure of on/off lever or switch or turn off water supply to fridge and check line for possible clog, and also on filter

A GFCI detects shorts in an electrical system and isolates power to prevent that device from harming other components upstream. GFCI's do go bad so that possibility exists. However, I would recommend trying to plug in your refrigerator into another outlet in your kitchen that has a different GFCI plug. If it does not trip then the GFCI needs to be replaced. If you do not have another available GFCI outlet and you plug it into a regular outlet, your breaker for that service line MAY trip. Better off testing with another GFCI. If your second GFCI trips, then the problem is with your refrigerator...meaning you have a short in your refrigerator. If you think this is something you can troubleshoot...BE CAREFUL!!! Always unplug your refrigerator before going into the components of the refrigerator. One thing you can do is turn both the freezer and refrigerator temperatures OFF or to their lowest setting. Plug your refrigerator in and see if the GFCI trips. If it trips you have a major short...probably in the bottom of the refrigerator. If it does not trip, turn the freezer temperature on first and see if it will run without tripping the GFCI. If it runs, then turn the freezer temp OFF. Then repeat the process testing the refrigerator components. Ice makers have been known to generate shorts in the system as well. There are various ways to troubleshoot a fridge. If you do not have the required electrical troubleshooting skills then PLEASE call a service technician.

You should not have multiple GFCI devices in any one circuit. Change out the outlet and label it
GFCI Protected if necessary...Your problem of nuisance trips should go away.

Have you checked for power at the outlet?or maybe try and unplug for few minutes and plug back in to outlet or another outlet...also outlet maybe gfci protected,look for reset button on outlet or in main breaker panel.

Yes ,, if the fridge outlet is behind the fridge and therefore not accessible for use by counter top appliances .. then yes change it to a regular outlet.
The cause is probably the compressor, getting a bit noisy..electrical noise I mean.

Try it in a normal plug. Freezers and refridgerators just pull too much to be used on a GFCI. The more a GFCI is used the eaiser it trips.

Do not run a refrigerator or any other appliance on a GFCI that has a start load greater than the GFCI rating. Your refrigerator has a greater start load.

Ground fault should not be used when you have a compressor plugged to it. The start amps can trip a ground fault. You can try to plug the unit on a regular outlet and if it doesnt trip the breaker then unit should be good. You can try to replace the ground fault if you need it (but make sure you have a higher amperage on the new one.)

try running an extension cord to the old outlet and see if the fridge works then you'll know if it's the fridge or outlet. good luck
