Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera I used this camera to take movies. When I play it back on the camera and after downloading to my computer, it plays as if it's set for fast forward and there's no sound. How can I get to see it in regular speed with the sound? It's not my camera and the owner said that she's never used it for movies. They recently purchased an 8 GB memory card. Might that have something to do with it? I looked at manual online and a few things seemed suspicious. 1) Would Time lapse mode have anything to do with this? manual said there's no sound in this mode. I did not pick different options for movies when i used it -- I just pushed jigger down from photos to video. 2) would the memory card need to be formatted? 3) manual said something about needing QuickTime to play back movies 4) on p. 187 mention was made of slow recording memory cards 5) anything to do with NTSC or PAL???

Check your camera settings in movie mode for the correct settings for time lapse, normal, slow motion and fast motion. A slow recording memory card will not produce your problem but will take longer to save the file. If you shot the movie in PAL and played it on an NTSC TV, the picture would be in black and white with no sound and vice versa. ALWAYS format the memory card in the camera, never on a PC

Try a retailer near you to see if they will allow you to test your camera with a SD card from a display camera.

Good luck, I hope this helps!

SOURCE: Canon camera won't accept SD memory card

It's a good bet that anything 4GB or greater is a SDHC card (look on the card, see if SDHC is written there). Your A530 was designed before the new SDHC format came out. Sorry, but your camera will not recognize this type of card. Recommend instead that you get a 2GB standard SD card. They're relatively inexpensive these days.

SOURCE: Computer Not Recognizing Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Elph A

Depending on your OS, you can download the latest driver for your system directly from Canon here. Remember to select your OS in the dropdown tab to be able to see the available downloads.

But I'd also recommend that you take this as an opportunity to consider utilizing a much safer method of downloading your pictures and videos. Please see this link, as it describes the use of a USB card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. Note that card readers are also VERY inexpensive these days (some places less than $2 online with shipping).

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, or if repair costs close to the value of the camera, they're worth a try.

Digital camera solution software download for sd1100 IS

You may download the software from here.

You don't need to use Canon's software. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Yes. Select the Movie mode (movie camera on tripod icon). Press the FUNC/SET button to select options, then press FUNC/SET again. Press the shutter release button to start recording, press the shutter button again to stop recording.

For full details, refer to the section "Movie Shooting" in the manual. If you don't have the manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd1100_is#BrochuresAndManuals

I cannot transfer a video file to my computer

Please don't take this as a sales pitch as it's not, but please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of an inexpensive card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos AND videos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
