Is it shutting down Windows? Or just abruptly powering off? Is it plugged in or running on battery?

  • Peaceworld Mar 30, 2011

OK facts, will try this tomorrow since system's in a tech shop, but pls also note that when it shuts down, I cannot restart it immediately, though the lights will just come on and then go off. It sounds like your "automatic shutdown on error" setting is turned on. Here are the instructions to turn it off:

Restart the computer and press the f8 key to open the Advanced Boot Options menu.
Select the "Disable automatic restart on system" failure option.
Restart the computer to accept this change.

If there is an error, you will be able to see it after you disable this setting.

I have hp pavilion tx 1000 since 3 days it takes 7 minuted to start and takes forever to shut it down so i have to forcefully shut it down please please help me

look up what you have in the startup files, alot of stuf you download puts thier product in the startup and it will take longer for your pc to turn them on and off:

Goto start menu and type in:
MSCONFIG

goto start up and turn off anything that you do not need to run at start up....becareful that you do not turn off key components to your system...just look for software you have downloaded...this will help speed up your start up and shutdown....

Sudden shutdown

If the battery is full and still shuts down suddenly then it could be a heatsinking problem on your Notebook. Also try unchecking the option "Automatically Restart" from StartUp & Recovery section in System Properties.

Laptop shuts off unintentionally

Sounds like a motherboard problem, with the batteries not charging and your ac adaptor is working cause the laptop still turns on with the ac adaptor. Plus with the laptop turning off on its own I would suggest making sure your air vents on the laptop has no dust or debris blocking the path. If after all these steps the laptop still turns off then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

Hp Pavilion a730n unknown issue

You might want to check the CPU fan for dust and re-seat the RAM. I sounds more like a heat issue.

HP Pavilion dv6000...startup and shut down...over and over !

if the other ideas dont work then its a bad motherboard this is common in compaq and hp laptops the chip sets overheats and goes bad HP knows here is issues with the boards but has done nothing to fix this as yet.I belive the is a class action law suit dealing with HP laptops with these issues
I run a computer shop here and deal with replacing mother board in laptops more then any other repair. you can pick up a board on ebay.I buy lots of laptop board on there just make sure you you get a seller with good feedback.i have yet to see a laptop the cycles on,off,on to be any other problem.

Pc will not turn on

I would be willing to bet your Power Supply has failed. A new supply should cost you less than 80 dollars and take no more than 15 minutes to install. Take out your old supply and take it to a Computer Shop to make sure you get the right style.
