Canopus ADVC-110 A/D Converter (77010150105) Video Capture Logo

I have an analogue Sony camcorder (TR805E) from the UK, therefore it is PAL. I am now in the States and I am trying to get my old Hi-8 footage onto my Macbook Pro. I have bought the Canopus ADVC300. I can't get past the blue screen in IMovie. IMovie sees the ADVC300 but doesn't recognise the video. I also tried it with my tv, my new Sony HD Camcorder and my Windows PC. The only time the video even showed up on any device was the tv and the picture was in black and white and really distorted. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

SOURCE: cant capture video

Not having camcorder control is normal, as the ADVC110 doesn't translate DV (AV/C) control to anything else. It just accepts and replies to deck control commands so the capture application doesn't get stuck waiting for a response.

First off, make sure you only have the ADVC110, your VCR, and your computer connected. No other Firewire devices.

Be sure your have the output from your VCR connected to the ADVC's input. Connect your VCR's output to your TV. You should see in iMovie the same image you see on your TV, slightly delayed.

Sony handy cam Hi 8 ccd trv308

Sony has a recall on some of these ccd imager problems. Contact Sony to see if your model applies, but it sounds like an imager problem on your pal format camcorder. Larry

Can I use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes in my DCR_TRV250E?If so would I be able to playback recorded tapes on the UK televisions?.

DCR-TRV250E is a PAL version camera of the Digital8 format.
Yes you can use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes. The camera will record a PAL digital picture on the tapes which means that you can play back the tapes in PAL and therefore you will be able to playback recorded tapes on UK televisions because they are also of the PAL format.

Sony analogue Hi8 Handycam as a security camera

Hi!

You need to have things with you before you can proceed to use it as a security camera. As your's is a analog camera we will require a video capture card connected with your pc/laptop.

After you have one connect that with your pc and pTo get the video into your computer, you need a analogue to digital video capture card....otherwise, connect the camcorder to a CD or DVD player/recorder, and use the CD/DVD as a source for your video editing... Otherwise, you need a later model of SONY "Digital 8" digital camcorder which plays analogue tape, and with this your computer can capture the video via firewire

For details on how to record using a software and video capture card please look at this link---

Sony Handycam DCR-TRV460E PAL

I don't know about the PAL version, but the NTSC version does. It automatically detects the type of tape and adjusts.
