I need solution for this problem immediately I installed windows 7 in my PC. after that in My PC DVD RW is not working.

Was the Windows 7 installed from a clean slate or you upgraded from Vista to Windows 7? If you have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, then this is definitely a driver problem. You can try to update the driver by going to Device Manager, check if the DVD drive is listed. Pull down the drop down list, and right click on the devices listed under DVD/CD-ROM Drives and choose Update Driver Software.
If the DVD drive came with a software bundle (e.g. Nero Burning Application) Try reinstalling these application under Windows 7 Environment.

OS: Windows VISTA home Compaq presario 6500 series issue: DVD drive does NOT get detected. However the door opens and closes.

try taking the panel off of the side of the computer and unplugging the power and data cables that lead to the dvd drive and restart the computer. it will see that the drive is not there. turn the computer off and plug the data and power cables back into the drive. windows will see the drive and reinstall the drivers for it. when you and unplugging the cables make sure the computer is not plugged into a power outlet.
most of the time it is a driver issue. this was a prevalent problem when systems did the windows update from internet explorer 6 to 7 for some reason. this normally took care of it.

Your OEM windows license is keyed to the mother board and the version.
To get legit: 1) First make SURE you have the driver for your network card(s) on a flash drive or disk 2) Google "windows 7 universal installer DVD x64". 3) Download and Burn DVD 4) Boot from DVD and install using the "key" from the sticker on the side of your computer. Entering the key during install is optional but will insure that the correct version gets installed. 5) Install/update drivers as needed. 6) Go to windows update and install all 7) reboot and go to #6 (4 to 10 times till no more updates show). 8) Install, flash, java, shockwave, reader, etc. 9) Activate windows. The OEM key will not "activate" with the online system. You will have to use the telephone method which is a PITA but it only takes 10 minutes.
Every computer I get gets this treatment. Get rid of all the demos and bloatware.

DVD drive Read problem in my Dell Dimension 3000

Make sure you have any and all Windows 7 updates from Microsoft, along with any updates for your DVD drive for use with Windows 7. Some components work fine using Vista SP2 drivers, but some will need an update to work with Windows 7.

This Microsoft site might help verify if your DVD drive is compatible with Windows 7:

Can I run download ie 6 if ie7 is pre-installed on my computer?

Hi Mary,

Mostly, new system with windows vista operating came with Internet explorer 7 which is the update of your internet explorer 6. You can still install IE6 but that could cause a problem with your system registry because you are reverting your internet explorer to the old version.

If you are playing video using your dvd rw you may need to use windows media player or you may need to use power dvd or any video/dvd player that came with your computer.

You dvd/rw is a device where you can write or copy your pictures, documents or any files on a blank dvd or cd.

keep me posted.
