Two problems: No regulation of heating. No matter the temp setting, the outcome is always hot. Dryness sensor will not work. Are these repairs that I can do, or should a repairman be called?

check all your fuses first if they are all good you may need to replace the heater control

Ain't no moisture sensor. This is is not an electronic sensing machine. It uses another method to determine dryness. An orange wire connects to the base of the heating element. The timer motor is driven by power from it in auto dry. The timer motor is VERY slow. Slower than most dryer timer motors.As the clothes get dryer the heat is not needed so the element is turned off by the control thermostat which is mounted next to the skinny white fuse on the blower housing. This allows for the turtle like motor on the timer to advance. Once the clothes get to the point of dryness the heater stays off way longer and the timer motor advances on over to the cool down and carry on over to the end of cycle. So the clothes won't always be dry due to factors like lint buildup in the blower housing, venting to outside and so forth. having said that my mom bought a brand new Kenmore dryer and I set it on 55 minutes timed drying. At the end of that them clothes is still damp. I then set it to auto dry high heat and that usually gets em dry. I think the main probo with this dryer is the thermostat ain't set as high as older models to keep the heat at a moderate temp so that the limits won't blow on models in apts and such. Just a theory.

My friend, I just saw your Chat request ... and i declined. I am glad you posted here. Having been there as well (with my washer/dryer), I can understand your frustration. No matter what you do, no positive result. Everything checks out and it still doesn't work. Some times you can make it go and sometimes it will not go ... no matter what.

Here is what I want to say: Does yours have a dryness sensor? Did it check out? If you have done all the trouble shooting, checked the thermal fuse, the heat element checks good with a volt/ohm meter. You have your dryer set properly (on a heat requiring setting not AIR DRY), the timer checks out and you still don't have heat, don't kill yourself.

You could replace the various assorted key elements (timer, switches, heaters, sensors (does your dryer have sensors to determine dryness) and eventually you will get it to go ... then you have a perfectly good working, very expensive, old dryer. A new dryer isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things. It will cost you $100.00 to have someone come look at what you have ... treat your wife to a new machine.

That is my free advice to you today, my friend. I just saved you another $20.00

have you replaced the tempreture sensor? usually faulty tempreture sensor will cause your heat to either be to high or to low

THIS IS A GUESS. Both sides probabley have "mix" dampers that regulate temp by mixing hot and cold air to make you comfortable. Passenger side must not work properly, stepper motor? Dirty actuator? Temp sensor on passenger not working? Don't honestly know but I'm not sure a do it yourselfer could figure it out. Sounds complicated.

The wire on the back of the control is most likely broken, I had the opposite (drivers side allways cold) I dissconnected the solid light green wire and now have hot air all the time, I disconnect it in the summer for cool air, the part is very expensive, $70.00 at a salvage yard!

there is a thermostat or what we would say a high temp switch near the heating element to keep it from getting to hot , the internal parts of the vent must be cleaned as well, cleaning the vent and the screen is not always good enough. Ive had to completely take the dryer apart and pull all pipes apart all the way to the lint screen to fix this problem.

I have a 1998 and had the same problem It ended up being the control itsel. I changed the control and it worked.

There is a blend air actuator on the passenger side that causes the blend air door to stay open to heat no matter what. It's below the left side of glove box, facing dash, and you can work it by hand and get it to close. If that works, get a new one. They're very easy to install.

switch prolly not bad but you might wanna look into your heater control valve. valve not closing and letting the hot coolant fill your heat exchanger rather than recycling it back to the cooling system. The heat is over powering your a/c system and you're only getting a bit of cooling when you have the a/c on max. try it out
