If you can,t get it apart don,t evan waste your time on it any more , You can get a good used one for $7 to $30 at the most now a days, that is better then a (RCA)
The optics assembly is shipped with a short across the laser to prevent static damage during shipping or installation. Make sure that you have opened up this short or the unit will appear like the optics are bad. The CD won't spin up unless a disc is detected which requires the laser to work.
There is a problem with the laser pic-up assembly(eye) 1st,2nd, 3rd,4rth music/track are recorded on disc from the center to edge.As the laser moves toward the edge the laser can't read perfectly the stored data on the disc. possible cause:the disc is in figure of 8, the lens needs cleaning, the suspension of the laser assembly,poor recording speed,spindle motor and voltage fluctuation of VCC
measure the total length of the belt, and I presume it is square. approximate the thickness and contact turntableneedles.com, they have about 450 belt sizes in stock.
I would guess that either the lens is dirty or the optics are starting to fail. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Keep us posted.
