Hi Orville,

Your problem is all about your motherboard you need to updated to BIOS firmware to solve your problem.

Go to the gigabyte website then go to your motherboard page and download and updated to the latest firmware for your bios.

Steps in flashing BIOS
How to Reflash Motherboard BIOS About updating BIOS... The whole BIOS updating procedure should be treated with extreme caution. If you do not encounter any system instability or bugs with the current BIOS version, we suggest that you keep it. If you determine to flash BIOS, you are taking a personal risk of BIOS flash failure. Please contact your supplier or our distributors/resellers for further remedy in case system crashes unfortunately because of BIOS flash failure. Before you begin... 1. Please make sure the BIOS version you want to flash matches your motherboard model. 2. If your BIOS is flash protected, please do not enable BIOS Flash Protection under Advanced CMOS Setup (AMI BIOS) or Advanced BIOS Features (AWARD BIOS) in BIOS menu. 3. Never interrupt when you BIOS is being updated. 4. Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction. Three BIOS Flash Utilities... We provide three BIOS flash utilities at our website. Below are the overviews. 1 : flashbios_qflash.gif A BIOS flash utility embedded in Flash ROM. Not all motherboards have the Q-Flash, please use @BIOS or DOS flash utility to update BIOS if your motherboard does not have Q-Flash. Features-- With this utility, you only have to stay in the BIOS menu when you want to update BIOS. No need to enter DOS or O.S. mode. Caution-- Make sure you have a functional floppy disk with the correct BIOS version for your motherboard. UEFI - Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif 2 : flashbios_atbios.gif A Windows-based BIOS live update utility. Features-- @BIOS helps you search for, download, and then update the latest BIOS in Windows operating system. Caution-- Make sure your O.S. environment is stable. UEFI - Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif Download PDF User Guide pdf.gif 3 : DOS Flash utility Features-- The flash utility is a combination of AMI and AWARD BIOS flash utility. You can use it with both AMI and AWARD BIOS. Caution-- Make sure you have a functional DOS boot disk with the correct BIOS version for your motherboard.

Hp pavillion a1514n won't enter the BIOS

Hi,

I have no personal interest or association with any product that I may suggest.

Unfortunately, you did not provide the name of the bios so my suggestions are generic

There are some default passwords that you should try first:

  • AMI
  • Award
  • bios
  • setup
  • cmos
  • concat
  • AMI_SW (case sensitive)
  • AMI!SW/
  • AMI?SW/
  • j262

If these passwords didn't do the job, please try the following options:

Option #1:

You can physically remove the Bios/CMOS PROM chip from the motherboard and send it either to the motherboard manufacturer or a Bios developer for replacement of flashing. You can also send the entire motherboard to a facility experienced in these operations.

Option #2:

If the motherboard has a flash updateable Bios/CMOS PROM chip, then you can download a fresh Bios update and re-flash the PROM to eliminate the password.

Option #3:

There are programs (utilities) and (cracks) that can be used to try and either identify the password or remove it forcibly from the PROM chip. Utilities to recover passwords are extremely expensive and are usually only sold to manufacturers and others involved in hardware and software development.

Lastly, you can follow the steps outlined in the link to a tutorial video set forth below:

Bios damaged

You are fortunate that your BIOS has a built-in recovery procedure. However, you will need a working floppy drive to recover the damaged BIOS.

Do you know what BIOS microcode you're using? Specifically, do you have an Award, AMI, or Phoenix BIOS? (Or some other one?)

Award, AMI, and Phoenix all have different procedures for recovering the BIOS. Once you know which one you have, search Google for "XXXX BIOS recovery" (Where XXXX is Award, AMI, or Phoenix).

Typically, the procedure includes placing a BIOS file onto a floppy, renaming it to a specific name (like AMIBOOT.ROM) and inserting that floppy into the drive.

Motherboard doesn't accept WD 40 gig on.

When you say "the system didn't work with that", do you mean it didn't identify the drive? When you go into the BIOS setup, are the drives displayed, or are they shown as "Auto"? Did you correctly change the WD drives jumper to Master, and the old drive, to Slave?
