We bought a new cord winder for our Electrolux 1205 Canister Vacuum cleaner and we are trying to install it is not turning on. We get it all connected but it doesn't turn on. Is there a reset button or some advise you can give me to get it working? I used a voltage detector to see if there was power running through the cord winder and there is.

The locking mechanism inside the cord winder is defective and needs repaired or replaced. Hope that helps!

I strongly suggest allowing a qualified service tech at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store take care of this. The disassembly and reassembly of the tank and cordwinder are tricky and complicated and incorrect reassembly can cause serious problems. Even to the extent of permanently damaging your vacuum, or worse, result in a shock hazard or fire.

Try tilting the vacuum to about a 45 degree angle. Gently tug and release the cord a few times. This usually will release the cord. If not, the cord winder may have broken, or the spring came loose, and it needs replaced/repaired. Take it to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for help/repair.

Depends on which model you have, but most of them you take off the center section, then you cab get to the 2 screws on top , and there is a screw on the bottom, then the back end will pull off. But I wouldn't try taking the cord reel apart, if that spring lets go while you are doing that, it could be dangerous. Also make sure that it isn't plugged in.
