My laptop slipped from my hand and fell down vertically i.e landed on the thin part of the battery. the battery had come out half way.
The problems are:
1. the screen appears stretched.
2. After i plug in the power supply the screen light goes dim instead or brighter.

the PC when it overheats it slows down (Intel inside magic)
or even shuts off. so most PCs do not damage actual
but is no good too use slow or dead.
sorry no fire. PCs are fire proof, smoke some sure is possible

Line, faults & possible causes to LCD screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent.
It is possible you might have picked up a virus, or a bad device driver. Try a system restore taking the computer back in time before this happened, may resolve the issue.
If the screen is not damaged it will be probably, cable between motherboard. You need to open the laptop and check if there is no loose in connection between motherboard and LCD
Unfortunately the LCD is going faulty.. one or more of the "Driver" transistors that operates the LCD elements RGB, have faulted ON.. perhaps this link may help fix it. Otherwise :(
