At first you need to have the password in order to change it. If you don't have it, you can reset the router to its factory default configuration. To do that, look on the back of your router. There should be a small hole that only a sharpened pencil or pen tip will fit in. There is a button inside that hole. You want to make sure you press the reset button down for about 15 seconds and make sure the lights flash on it when you do that. Your router will reset to the factory defaults.

you can change it's password and SSID by login in through internet explorer, both the username and password of router can find on it's backside, then follow some easy steps to change SSID (wireless name) and wireless password (WEP) min 8 charectors,
please don't try to change your username and password provided by your Network provider if are not a professional, (connection may lost)
Thank you rate if you succeeded

How to set a password?

  • Access the router's default configuration address through your Web browser by entering this address: http://192.168.1.1 (see Resources). Do not enter a user name. Enter "admin" for the password. That process works for all new Linksys routers. If you have changed the user name or password in the past, use the user name and password that you created.

  • 2

When the configuration screen opens, click on the "Wireless" tab and select "Wireless Security" to view the router's current security password. The "Security Mode" field will say "Disabled" if you do not have a password to secure your network.

  • 3

Select the appropriate encryption type from the "Security Mode" drop-down menu. Linksys routers offer WEP and WPA encryption. WPA encryption allows you to use a single password to access the network. WEP encryption creates 10- or 26-character keys that act as your password. Some of your wireless devices may only utilize a certain type of encryption. Determine which protocol is best for your network.

  • 4

Enter a password that will be required to access the network. For WPA encryption, you can write your own password. For WEP encryption, click the "Generate" button to create passwords that can be used to access the network. Write down your passwords and keep them in a secure location.

  • 5

Click "Save Settings" to confirm your changes. Your network will now be secured and will require a password for access.

  • 6

Click the "Administration" tab to create a password to access the router configuration page itself. Be sure to change the password from the default "admin." Reenter the password for confirmation in the next field. Click "Save Settings" to confirm your new password.

I need help getting a connection with my router. I currently have a direct connection to my Speedstream 5360 modem

You need to connect your router to modem with the existing ehternet cable from wan post in the back of the router to modem port. After powering up the router, use an ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the ports on it marked 1 through

Next open a web browser window on the connected computer and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. This will take you to the Netgear Smart Wizard welcome page, click OK to begin the configuration. The router will attempt to detect the type of connection you have and the next message you receive should be Dynamic IP (DHCP) Detected, click Next once you see this.

Next you will enable the wireless capability of your router. In the dropdown box for the region where you are located select United States from the list. On this screen you should also change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from its default value to something unique so that your Base Station will not be confused with another. Click Next. You should now see a message confirming that your connection is working and wireless is enabled. However, your are not secured yet. Read the notes and click Done.

Then direct your browser to http://www.routerlogin.net to continue the configuration. A window will pop up prompting you for your login and password, enter admin for the username and password for the password, then click OK.

Once you have logged in you will see the main configuration page (shown above). Now click on the Wireless Settings at the left of the page. In order to password protect your wireless network select the WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) option under the Security Options and then under the Security Encryption (WEP) section that appears, select 128 bit next to Encryption Strength. Choose a password between 6 and 8 characters and type it into the Passphrase box under the Security Encryption (WEP) Key heading. Then click Generate. Finally click Apply. You may also select WPA encryption, however not all network cards support this, so check your documentation first.Once you have finished, click the Apply button.

Finally click on the Set Password link on the left of the page under the Maintenance heading. Change the default password for accessing your wireless router setup pages by first typing the old one, password, into the appropriate field and then entering a new one into the New Password field and confirming it. This should be a different password than the one you setup for WEP encryption, but should also be atleast 6 to 8 characters in length. Click the Apply button.Your Netgear Wireless Router is now secure.

I dont know how to change the SSID Name and WEP Key.

You have to change it in the printer settings, not in the router! Otherwise you'll lose connectivity in all the other computers that use this router.
The SSID is the name you gave to your wireless network, and the WEP key is the password you set for your wireless connection.

How to create a security enable router?

Firstly, confirm that your ISP connection for email and internet is working correctly. Then connect the router to the ISP using the ADSL plug, and to your computer using the ethernet connection. It is best to set up your router using a wired connection to your computer. Once set up, you can connect your computer using WiFi. Have your ISP username and password handy.

There are two steps to secure your router:

    1. Change your ADMIN password. Using a web browser like Intenet Explorer, type in the address, http://10.1.1.1. This should take you to a sign-on screen. Username is "admin", and password is set at the factory as "admin". You should now be logged in to your router. Go to the TOOLS tab, and change your admin password. NOTE THIS DOWN FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

    2. Secure the wireless part of the network: Go to the HOME tab, and select either WEP security (good) or WPA security (better, but some devices like printers don't like this).

For WEP you will need to enter a 10-digit WEP key. Numerals will do, or you can use hexadecimal (base 16) notation if you know this. Numerals will do and are no less secure. NOTE THIS DOWN in a secure place. Click the "APPLY" button.

For the WPA alternative, you should select the "Pre-shared Key" radio button, and code in your WPA password in the "PSK String" field. This can be a word and or numerals. I don't think spaces or other characters are allowed. NOTE THIS DOWN in a secure place. Click the "APPLY" button.

That's IT!! You've changed the admin password and secured the wireless part of the network.

You will then need to code the WEP or WPA password into the devices like printers and computers that you want to connect to the WiFi. For Vista computers, right click on the network icon in the tray (two little computers overlapping) and select "Connect to a network". Enter the WEP or WPA password when you see SSID "default" or your SSID if you've changed it. Most printers have a connection wizard.

There is a further enhancement if you are really paranoid: change the SSID and turn off the SSID broadcast. Go to the manual at:

    ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DSL-G604T-GenII/Manuals/DSL-G604T_GenII_Manual_v1.11.pdf

if you want further details. Good luck with your secure network.

Need to Change WEP Password or confirm present password

The devices ip address is "192.168.0.1". type that into a web browser and a login screen will show up. enter your account password (not wep), or if u never did this before just leave it blank.
Then you can go to wireless configuration and change the code. I suggest using WPA2 as you can use a password instead of a really long code.
