While I was away on vacation, someone from Bell Canada phoned my home and talked my 15-year old son into doing some "tests" on our ADSL connection, tests which "determined" that our current modem was way too slow and that we should "upgrade" to a new free replacement modem he would send us.
When I got home, I confirmed with Bell that it was indeed a free "upgrade" and could return the old one to them by prepaid post. The new modem, a Speedstream 5200 E240, is actually slower than the previous one; when viewing a video, we can only see 4 or 5 seconds at a time until it "reloads", something the old modem never did. I have 3 questions:
1- have we been duped by Bell Canada?
2- is there any way I can hack this modem to make it faster?
3- if not, can you recommend a faster modem?
Thanks for any help you can provide
Jacques
Modems are now shipped with the Hardware firewall turned on low to block things, and also Telnet..
Turned it off and then it should also all fixed.
there is methods of hacking this unit as well
------------------
Step 1: you have to make sure your IP is set to 192.168.2.2
Step 2: Go to »192.168.2.1/pfwizardj.cgi?code=E···retain=f and set "All Items" under "Profile Configuration Access" click next and choose "Do not require admin login"
Step2: Go to »192.168.2.1/pfwizardj.cgi?code=E···retain=f and do the same thing, except type 192.168.2.2 as your "Constant Profile IP Address".
(if everything went ok, you should now see the new configuration page)
From here, you have to access every configuration page manually.
Here they are:
»192.168.2.1/dhcpcfg.htm - DHCP
»192.168.2.1/ddnscfg.htm - Dynamic DNS (what francoisr wanted)
»192.168.2.1/ipp_config.htm - IP Passthru
