A firewire cable is required. 4 to 6 pin for most Desktops or 4 to 4 pin for most Laptops.

The best way to do this is to download the video onto a computer. Using video software (there is a lot available on the internet), edit your video and then send it to the DVD burner.

first of all you won't download the clips, but stream them to be able to be recorded...
for that you need a fire wire cable to connect the cam to the PC... (assuming that the PC have an FW plug !)
then you'll need a video editor software, like movie maker or premi?re the first is a minimalist and free, the second is a professional one and costs a lot...
then after editing you'll have the option to burn a DVD or stream to youtube or whatever you wan to do with the final result...

for to import from the Sony handy-cam you need a firewire cable ..not a rca..this one will only help you see the video on a tv ...but you will not be able to import them into computer ... just ask at the store..and take the camera with you .. another thing the camera may support even a usb cable that may be available in the box that it came with (infact the iLink cable should be there too ) so ..this is a link to a video I use to explain in detail the procedure to import fom minitape of sony handycam. .http://www.5min.com/Video/Windows-Movie-Maker---import-from-a-DV-tape-6876 after have them into the windows movie maker..just drag them to the story board..(join them if you need) ..and save them by finishing movie...and save to computer ..in best for computer mode...after that just burn them to **** ..using Nero ..or if they are small enough to get into a cd ...use window feature for burning ..

The Canon ZR40 Mini DV Camcorder has the port "Firewire" so you can copy your tapes to a computer. you will need to check your computer if it has also a firewire socket (All the new laptops have it).
You don't need any drive software, Windows has all the necessary drivers built in. You can use Windows Movie Maker for the capture, but if you want to burn your finished movies onto DVD then look at something like Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 which is one stop shop application (Capture,edit and burn). you can download a 30 days trial and try it out and see if it's what you want before buying it.

Unless the video is stored on the memory card you cant transfer it directly, you need a video capture device, it is an attachment to your Computer that manages the transfer of taped video copies to digital...
firewire is an apple gift to the video etc .
world ( also called standard : ieee 1394 );
it solves some problems better than usb
because it is a peer to peer connection
( all devices communicate with each other )
and your editing will be easier with it ;
