F1 touch pad / ERC test This simple test will help determine
whether the ERC (Electronic Range Control or Clock) or the touch pad is
defective when F1 error code is present.
Note: Some models incorporate the touch pad in to the ERC as a single
assembly, in which case this test is not necessary. Simply replace the ERC
(Clock).
Warning: If you feel in any way uncomfortable performing this test or
making this repair, please contact a qualified appliance repair technician.
1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power
off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power
to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing
2. Gain access inside the control panel.
3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from
the ERC
4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short
when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was
5. Turn the power back on.
6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually
accompanied by a beeping sound)
7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad.

Continual beeping since March 2002, when I bought for $2,200. a Jenn-Air Grill electric coil stove, with down draft + convection oven. Currently, repairs will cost $1,200. for 3 mother boards + touch pad: no oven, no downdraft, no clock. Here's the history:Beeps progressively worsened. Jenn-Air didn't honor warranty -didn't answer phone, letters, faxes or email over 2-3 year period. Replaced entire right burner 'module' ($360.) and switch, etc. Sept 2007 -March 2008 turned electricity to stove off & used $29. hot plate + saw no difference in performance from $2,200. Jenn-Air Grill. Since March, I put up with beeps, now touch pad doesn't work so oven, downdraft, etc are useless.Estimated repair cost: $1,200. includes 3 motherboards, touch pad, etc.
I had the touch pad replaced under warranty last year when it went totally dead. The service tech said they have alot of problems. This year it went again but of course is no longer under warranty. I'm very frustrated.
Mine too, every 9 months since I purchased it.
Perhaps a class action lawsuit?
We thaugh maby it's because of the cleanning? We had to change our board 2 times since we have this range. Is there anyway we can obtain a free touch pad from Jen Air?
Same siutation. Number 0 stopped working. Worked around it. Then 9 stopped working, now broil button doesn't work. Talk about a design flaw. Cost to fix $425 with nothing more than a 90 day warranty. Never thought a range would be considered disposable product.
I have the same problem, no more warranty, repair cost out of whack, may be a law suit??
I took front panel off disconnected and removed the electronics panel exposing the back of the touch pad. I cleaned it and could feel that it was bulging inward so I carefully pushed it outward and cleaned it . Reassembled and it is working and no more beeping. IMHO the touchpad was contacting the control panel causing the beeping.
