Makita 2 Bl1830 18v Battery,dc18ra Charger Lxt Fr Drill Logo

Is it possible to repair a defective lithium ion battery? I have 3 batteries that won't charge (red & green flashing lights). I opened them up and found that 9 out of 10 cells are good in each battery, showing about 3.5 volts when tested. I tried swapping out the bad cell in one battery pack with one of the good ones in another battery pack and my "new" battery with all 10 good cells still reads defective on my charger. Is there something I can do with the circuit board to make it stop reading as defective on the charger? I've soldered on circuit boards before but I don't want to start messing with this if I don't know what needs to be fixed. Like zzfiremanzz commented, $100 per battery is a lot when the battery pack fails immediately after the warranty is up and I'd like to be able to steal the good parts of my 3 bad batteries to make (at least) one good one.

Not a problem with the charger. I actually have 3 chargers and 7 batteries (3 of which are currently showing as defective on each charger) My remaining 4 batteries charge fine on all of my chargers. Thank you for the suggestion though, tvenetis.

This is a known problem with BL18XX batteries. Makita designed the battery supervisory circuit to run off only one of the 10 cells, so leaving your battery uncharged for a long time eventually discharges one cell much more than the others. When you put this battery in the charger, it reports that the battery is defective. Another Makita fault is that the intelligent (DC 18XX) chargers will only attempt to charge a 'faulty' battery 3 times, then they will re program the micro in the battery to lock out charging for good. The only solution is to buy 3rd party replacement battereis that don't have the faulty Makita supervisory circuit.

Maybe there is something wrong with the charger itself. If you have a friend that has the same drill try to charge the battery on his charger.

Just bought a Ruobi drill with 18V Lithium Batteries. Been chatging for over an hour. Still not charged. Just the bottom Green light stays on. Is this normal? How long does it take?

The Ryobi charger will flash green as it charges and then remain steady or slowly flashing green when fully charged. Flashing red means testing and if it remains steady or slowly flashing red it is defective.

Makita battery charger wont charge

If both lights on the charger are flashing it is indicating you have a bad battery and the charger will not charge the battery. The charger has circuitry that tests the battery and if it 'thinks' the battery is defective it will not attempt to charge it. The only way to verify whether it's the battery or charger is to try charging your battery on another charger or try charging another battery on your charger. Most of the time it's a bad battery.

Hi both red and green lights are flashing and it wont charge battery bl1830 lith ion

If both lights are flashing it means the battery is defective so it won't charge it. By defective it could mean the battery is just worn out or there may be a short in the battery. If the battery is under warranty you can get it replaced at a Makita Service Center, if not you have to buy a new battery.

MAKITA LXT BL1830 18V LITHIUM-ION 3.0AH BATTERY

If the charge count on the batteries is under 300, Makita will replace them. Makita has a known defect in this battery that causes the battery to shut down before it is dead. So as of now they are exchanging ones with low use.

If they are truly defective and makita won't replace, you have to open them, find the dead cell or blown fuse, and replace. Search youtube makita battery for a video on repairing this battery. But once the red and green lights on the charger flash, the the battery can't be charged on a Makita charger -- it's been locked. So use a third party charger.

When the battery is in the charger it flashes red & won't charge, have no idea what problem is! Have casio exilim lithium ion NP-20 battery & a casio exilim 7.2 megapixels camera. Can't turn camera...

I called casio and they told me that when you have a red flashing light on the charger it means the lithium battery is no longer any good. They offered to send me one free of charge. It's been several weeks and I have yet to receive it.
