I am unable to set the Digital Zoom to On, in my Canon G12. The Digital Zoom Option in the Camera Menu always seems to stay blanked out no matter what I do. Discussions with fellow G12 owners did not provided a solution. Please, can you help me. Thank you Lindsay

If taking the battery out for at least 15 minutes, pressing the power button without the battery in the camera, and then after you put
the battery in the camera doesn't work to fix a problem you can reset the camera to factory settings like this:

1. Press the "Menu" button. Press the right arrow once to highlight the "Setup" menu.
2. Press the down arrow five times to select "Reset All." Press the "Set" button.
3. Press the right arrow button once to select "OK." Press "Set."

If it's not deleting all your photos you may have a setting in your menu features that allow you to overwrite earlier photos if your card gets full.

To reset the Canon, remove the battery for 15mins then replace the battery and go to the camera's Menu and set the Date & Time.

There may your LCD connecting flip is defective, just replace it and camera will be fine.

Replace the LCD cable. Not expensive and easy to replace. Try eBay for a replacement.

Press the arrow button to se the last picture taken, then "Menu" and select "Erase" with the "Set Func" and follow instructions.

The digital zoom setting is only available when the aspect ratio is set to 4:3. The setting is accessible by pressing the 'func.set' button.

If the option to turn your digital zoom on or off is grayed out then the mode you have the camera set to does not allow changes to that option in that mode. I would try changing to another mode and see if the option is still grayed out. That being said I would NEVER use the digital zoom feature. All a digital zoom does is electronically crop the image in the camera which can be done easier and better once the images are uploaded to your computer. Digital zoom usually produces images of greatly reduced quality. I hope this helps!

This model has had problems with the switch block assembly. The shutter control is a two stage switch which gets stuck and attempts to fire the shutter when the camera is powered on. This is not a very serious problem and is easily resolved by a qualified technician. Replacing the switch block takes a bit of skill and should be done by a Canon service facility.
