When turning the ignition switch on my LT 1000 craftsman tractor, it doesnt do anything. I have replaced the battery fuse and the ignition switch and nothing happens. The lights doesnt come on either. It appears to be some kind of safety mechanism that wont allow the mower to start. Thanks Mike

You may either need a seat switch, pto switch or a park break switch. If the tracter is in nuetral with the park break set,it should start with out anyone on the seat, eliminating the seat switch. If you on the seat and the park brake is pushed and it wont start make sure the pto is off,if it is and nothing happens, then it's likely the parkbrake switch. Also check the connections on the battery, starter and engine block[ground].Let me know how you make out.

Lt 2000 craftsman riding mower wont start by key only jumping cylanoid

Bad ignition switch or bad solenoid (there is no such thing as a "cylanoid"). Start by testing continuity through the ignition switch and, if the ignition switch is good, replace the solenoid.

Fuses lt 1000

Right side of mower as you are sitting on it under the gas tank. Look for the fuse holder. It takes a two pronged fuse like a car would.

My craftsman LT 1000 wouldn't start, it's silent. I changed my battery - still the same.

1. try jumping your mower battery with your car/battery and see if it cranks. If it does, charge your battery. If it doesnt
2. try jumping directly from battery to starter. If that works, its your starter solenoid. If it doesnt,
3. change the starter.
I would need engine model number in order to find your part numbers.

My craftsman lt 1000 lawn tractor will not start. When I turn the key the starter motor spins but the gear will not raise up and engage the flywheel. Do I need a new starter? (18 hp b&s 42 Inch cut) If...

Starter motor spins, but does not engage
  1. Check the starter motor for a seized or binding pinion gear.
  2. Remove the flywheel inspection plate and check for a damaged ring gear.
  3. Engine stalls immediately when started
    1. Check the ignition switch condition and operation. The electrical contacts in the run position may be worn or damaged. Try restarting the engine with all electrical accessories in the off position. Sometimes turning the key on an off will help in emergency situations, however once the switch has shown signs of failure, it should be replaced as soon as possible.
    2. Check for loose, corroded, damaged or shorted wires for the ignition system and repair or replace.
    3. Check for manifold vacuum leaks or vacuum hose leakage and repair or replace parts as necessary.
    4. Measure the fuel pump delivery volume and pressure. Low fuel pump pressure can also be noticed as a lack of power when accelerating. Make sure the fuel pump lines are not restricted. The fuel pump output is not adjustable and requires fuel pump replacement to repair.
    5. Check the engine fuel and ignition management system. Inspect the sensor wiring and electrical connectors. A dirty, loose or damaged sensor or control module wire can simulate a failed component.
    6. Check the exhaust system for internal restrictions.

I have a Craftsman LT 1000 riding mower that just quit running. Won't turn over or anything. Manual suggests checking fuse as one of the options. Only problem is, I can't find the fuse! Manual says it is...

Start with the easiest thing first !
1) jump start the battery from you automobile, or install a charger for an hour. This will tell you wether you battery or connections are good.
If it started with the jump, before you replace a battery:
2) clean the cable ends and make sure cable hardware to battery posts are good and clean.
If it started with the jump, then you know the fuses are good.
If it did not start with the jump or cleaned and charged battery,
3) check the in-line fuse. Located between the key switch and the solenoid, in the wiring harness, normally behind the firewall behind the engine, or in front of the dash close to the fuel tank (if the battery is under the seat)
4) some Sears tractors use a 'relay' also located on the firewall.

Note: for now, let's see how this works. Let me know if you need further assistance. It can get more complicated, but let's keep it simple for now. rwvanlue
