Sony WEGA We have a Sony WEGA TV about 5 - 6 years old. We will be watching and then the picture will turn to snow then turn back to picture. It also appears that the picture is halved horizontally when the snow appears. It continues to do this and sometimes we have to turn the TV off then on again. Is this a TV problem or a problem with our Direct TV?

This usually means the Lamp is failing. Replacing the Lamp usually fixes it. I would only use a Sony Replacement.
You can order one from Sony at 1800-222-SONY or you may be able to pick one up from a local Sony Retailer.

It must be connected with the color circuit of your tv, a board connected to back end of the tube. Could be dust, cob web or carbon deposit shorting a transistor. Popping noise if loud enough can be attributed to high voltage circuit fault and picture tube.
Make sure the TEXT and CAPTION options are turned off.
I am not sure about the Sonny's, but on my Toshiba a black box appears when I inadvertently leave one of the close captioning (CC) on for text or captions on (such as CC1, CC2, etc.).
Is this easily repaired or would the cost warrant purchasing a new TV?
