When putting a disc in, it attempts to load and makes a noise then reads "no disc". When checking it further with the lid up, the disc does not spin but the laser light does come on.

Hi hanksch,
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
2.Replace the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin. http://www.fixya.com/support/r7833671-change_defective_motor_portable_dvd
Hint : 50% of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens was faulty.

If you can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the symptom.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

The pladder motor that the dvd sits on has an open winding in the motor, or the 5 volts to the motor is missing. Unfortunately it will be far cheaper to replace the dvd player than having it repaired.

Try cleaning the laser lens. Either opening the unit and cleaning with a cotton bud, or try a lens cleaning disk.

Hello, my wii wont spin any games at all! if i put in a disc, i can only hear "click click click" and nothing happens. in disc channel it says "wont able to read disc". i tried again...

When a Wii breaks, it is almost always the disc drive. Both I and 4 other people I know had the disc drive in our Wii's die within 1 year of purchase. Based on your description, this is certainly what has happened to yours. Normally, I would advise you to send the console to Nintendo for repair. If the Wii is under warranty they will perform such repairs for free. However, since your friend opened the console, it will no longer be under warranty. You will have to pay for the repairs.

You can also attempt to repair it yourself by ordering a replacement drive from a parts seller online or from ebay. But if you are not electronically inclined, I would advise you to send ti to a professional. As a last alternative you can sell your broken device on ebay and put that money towards the purchase of a new Wii console, as they are relatively inexpensive.

Mintek 1050 dvd player

Sounds like something may be stuck inside the unit. If there is no warranty left, UNPLUG the device from the mains, undo the 2 or 4 screws on the sides of the unit, lift off the lid and just look to see if there is a foreign object inside or a DVD,(if at some point one of the kids put 2 Discs in and closed it, one of them could have got pushed over the top of the drive and got jammed), remove it and put the lid back on. Just make sure you don't touch or fiddle with any thing inside as not to damage it further.
Another possibility is that something is stuck to laser lens which you will only be able to see if you take the lid off.
DANGER WARNING do not take the lid off in the same room as the kids, or they WILL do it themselves, when you are not about.

At loadup.

check your disc's that it's not putting a mark on them...

sounds like the laser is hitting the disk trying to get it to focus,
thus it's either the spindal is to low or not moving or the laser is week or not in the correct position

Player Does not play any type of Disc

Press case lid where it attaches to player. If this makes unit react you have a defective lid switch. You can probably put some weight over it to hold lid down and it will operate. Otherwise switch must be repaired
