Set top tension at four. If the ball of thread remains on bottom then loosen the bobbin tension. Do this a little at a time until the stitch is good.

The upper tension is too tight. The upper thread is pulling the bobbin thread up.

Thread balling up in the bobbin case usually indicates that the TOP thread is mis-threaded (usually at the take up lever). Check with your manual for proper threading path.

Usually when your bottom thread is messed up, it is because your top thread is not threaded correctly.

Totally rethread your machine, then check your needle, put in new one if you haven't changed it in awhile or not sure if it is bent. Usually it is in the top threading for problems underneath. Also, make sure that you are using the same weight of thread top and bottom or else you can have problems. Good luck

If the thread balls up on the bottom of the fabric, USUALLY the upper tension is insufficient.

ALSO check for the correct threading both above and below and verify the needle is oriented correctely with the long groove toward you.

tighten top thread tension.

angle the bottom might be a mess but it is the top thread that
you see balled up .Pull the top thread and make sure there is tension on it ,if not check the thread is between the discs and there is nothing else between them .if this is ok there is something stopping the top thread from being pulled back up
through the needle plate to form a good stitch,if you can turn by hand and watch where it is catching you might be able to solve it.
