I plugged my Garmin 255w into the Ford Sync System. It started like it was syncing to a computer. After a little while, I unplugged it. Now it starts the initial startup, but beeps twice and turns off. It continues doing this over and over. It will only stop if I reset the device. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Why will my Garmin not sync into my computer?

As one of the Garmin IQUE 3600 owners for so many years, and switched computers many times (yes, I am still actively using it), I would like to share my experience that I had with this sync problem (palm desktop running, press the sync button, but there is no sync "beep", and the sync will eventually timed-out).
My problem is solved by "timing" the sync. My set up is that hotsync will run only when the palm desktop is running. So afterI double-clicked the palm desktop icon, the hotsync icon in the system tray will show up first, and then the palm desktop will show up. I observed that if I press the sync button on the cradle right within few seconds after palm desktop shows up, the sync will likely to succeed. If I waited too long, my sync will not work. If it fails, I will exit palm desktop, wait for the hotsync icon to disappear and try it all over again. Good luck.

SOURCE: update problem with Garmin Nuvi 255w

I had same problem. I called Garmin customer service who connected me to a computer rep. Garmin hooks with your computer that you have your Garmin plugged into.They can upload the proper software in no time at all.
The rep told me that after I updated my Garmin I might have turned off the unit before it completed updating the new software. You need to wait until the screen with "Where to?" appears.
It works great now. Prepare to wait on hold for a while. I waited just over an hour on Monday, their busiest day.

When I turn on the garmen 255w it states loading maps, the green lines goes across,then the screen goes blank. I have tried this plugged in and unplugged. I have turned it off and back on. I have let it...

Hello,

the problem is actually a software issue and since resetting does not solve the problem,I think updating the deice should solve the problem. Update is just like reinstall the system software of the unit and it might get things fixed.

To perform update, follow the below procedures;

1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.

2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web address: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27

3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).

4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

If the computer does not recognize the Gps, you can try the below procedure;

With the unit OFF, hold your right thumb on the Upper, Left part of the screen and plug the USB plug from your computer into the back of your GPS. The unit should boot up and stop at the screen where it shows a little computer, wire, and little GPS. Your computer should now show the GPS as connected. Only now you can pull your thumb from the screen.

Then use Webupdater to upload 4.40 to your GPS.

Hopefully, the above should be helpful

Good luck.

Garmin nuvi 660 in PC Sync mode even it is not connected to PC USB or AC power supply. So the GPS is useless since it is not even in navigation mode. Any idea how to solve it?

Here's a work around. 1) Plug the USB cable in and let enter Sync Mode as usual. 2) When the Garmin unit is in Sync mode, unplug the USB cable. 3) The Garmin unit will start to exit Sync mode, at which time, IMMEDIATELY plug the USB cable in again. 4) If you plugged in the USB cable in time, notice the Garmin unit will remain out of the sync mode.

My new nuvi 255w will not start displaying info

When using a usb from your computer it is only a trickle
charge to the garmin. Will take a day or two to fully charge. If you use a the cigarette lighter plug that came WITH the garmin, it will fully charge in 4 hours. Stick with garmin approved plugs and all will go smooth. I know, I made the same error.

Need a more indepth instruction manual on how to program gps system graman nuvi 255w series

Plug your GPS into your computer it has a drive letter (look in My Computer)and is provbably called Garmin and has a little icon. The next highest letter drive is the SD card. I use SD to download POIs and keep photos. I don't think there is a way to look at stuff on the SD through the GPS, you need a computer You can transfer stuff from SD to Garmin by connecting the USB then copying stuff between drive letters. In the Garmin drive, select JPEG to store your photos, you can then view them on Garmin. You can download pictures from My Computer, My Pictures to the drive letter of the SD or put them directly into the JPEG folder on the GPS. Hope this helps

Ilo MP3 player locks up when plugged into MAC or PC

1) Disconnect from computer, turn it off, hold in volume + button and reconnect it to your computer - continue holding volume + until the Found Hardware Wizard comes up.

2)
REFORMAT FOR WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER - Erases Everything: Connect your iLo player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "ILO 2GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything, and give you a fresh start.

Why will my Garmin not sync into my computer?

First, right click the hotsync button in the task bar and make sure "USB" is selected (assuming you're using USB...).
If that doesn't work, let me know.
