My Technics SA DX1040 displays "Overload" and when change the input, it will dispaly "SWITCH OFF". I tookk the speaker connections and turned it on by itself and still displays the same thing. Can anyone give me the basics in resolving this problem. The amp looks sturdy and all, I hate throwing it away. Suggestions please!

it could be overheating - try aiming a fan at it for a while, see if the problem stops.

yes it can be fixed , the input may have shorted and is now protecting the other circuits. it will need to be looked at and tested to make the repair. so calling and probably having to take it to, an electronic repair shop will need to be done.

"The protection circuitry has functioned because the positive and negative speaker connection wires are "shorted," speaker systems with an impedance less than the indicated rated impedance of this unit are used or under severe use, such as loud volume, excessive power and in an excessively hot environment."

Check the fan connections at the back. The connections (just two flimsy metal prongs) came apart (I believe), so I have had to re-enforce them with electrical tape so the connections stay together until I investigate a further replacement fan. For now the connections are extremely sensitive to motion/viberation/impact/etc... but it does work now.
