More times than not, the scan stops part way through (example attached) and then (after several minutes) displays the messages below:.Missing: scanjet 4600
Access the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.hp.com
and enter 'g4010' and do the search.
Select the 'linux' Operating System.
Download the device-driver, if there is one available.
Well, there a couple ways to get a driver. In the package the item came with, download from manufacturers web site (or other driver website), or call HP support and try to order a CD. There is one other alternate if you know someone who has the same printer you have.
220 mb file is not that big of a download, unless you have a slow connection such as dial-up. Is there some other reason the file is too large?
This scanner is supported by the SANE project (http://www.sane-project.org) and the info on your scanner is here http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl?manu=umax&model=astra+3400&bus=any&v=&p= . The scanner uses the sane-plustek driver. You need to install sane, xsane and sane-frontends and sane-backends. Once you have installed them you should be able to plugin and turn on the scanner and run xsane.
My 3300C is back from dead. It's ALIVE!!!!
I am not a geek - just a stupid gene cloner/researcher/academic faculty/administrator (I have never changed oil in my car). The steps I took are as follows (the order is important):
1) Go to "http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/" and you will see a scary table. Do not get intimidated. You will only download "packages" under the system your mac is running (check "About This Mac" under apple). Forget the rest.
2) Open "Libsub - binary" and install it. Then open Libsub SDK and install it.
3) Open Sane Backends - and install binary and then SDK.
4) Open Twain-Sane Interface and install it.
5) Open Sane preferences and install.
I then restarted my computer (may be not necessary) and opened Photoshop - under File>Import, I had a new option "SANE...". It found the scanner and presented an extremely funky window to adjust coordinates some choices. Don't mess with coordinates, choose "Preview" instead. Give some time for scanner to respond. A few groans later preview is presented next to the funky window - adjust the coordinates and scan :-)
it dont work :(
