hub studs are just a press in fit . the replacement can usually be done with out the hub removal. remove the drum /disc rotor
using a hammer and punch drive the broken stud out. place new stud in position and pull in to place using nut and spacers to get it home .
if you can remove the hub and drive the broken stud out . fit new stud and place the hub over something like a piece of pipe /socket the new stud in the pipe or socket) that is on something solid and hammer the new stud home.

using a hammer and punch knock the broken stud out
fit the new stud from behind use over size nuts as spacers fit the stud nut and apply tension
using the hammer and punch from the rear on the head of the stud knock it in as you keep the tension on the stud nut
keep the process going until the stud is fully seated on the head of the stud

You can replace it. There are several types of screw extractors out there. They usually come with a drill bit for the correct size extractor. You will need to find out what size stud it is. Once you have determined that chose the appropriate size drill bit and extractor. Lowes or home depot carry them. Drill into the center of the broken stud. Be careful not to drill too deep as you might damage the thermostat housing. Once you have drill into the stud use the extractor to remove the broken stud. Napa auto parts or autozone should carry the stud size and length that you need. Purchase a stud and 2 plain nuts that match the thread of the stud. The nuts will be used to install the stud. Thread The stud into the thermostat housing. Once it is tight by hand stop. Thread the first plain nut onto the stud far enough so that you can get the second nut onto the stud and have a thread or two sticking out of the second nut. Once the two nuts are on the stud hold the first nut with a wrench and tighten the second nut tight against it. This will allow you to finish installing the stud. Once the nuts are tightened together, use a wrench (on the second nut only) to run the stud down into the thermostat housing. Do not overtighten the stud as you may crack the housing. Run the stud down into the housing unit the stud is the same height as the existing stud. Then use a wrench to hold the second nut and loosen the fist nut away from the second nut. You will need to remove the Rear Wheel, Brake Caliper, and Rotor to replace the Stud. Once those are removed, take a Hammer and hit the Wheel Stud from the front to drive the Stud out through the back of the Wheel Hub. Once the Stud is out, take the new Stud and insert it in the Hub from the back. You will need to get a Open Ended Nut with the proper thread size as the Stud and thread it on the Stud, and tighten the Nut till the Stud comes all the way through the hole and the end of the Stud is flush with the back of the Hub. Remove the Nut and you can now put everything back together.

very easy remove wheel support car on jack stands take hammer and beat the old stud out put new stud in place thick metal washers on stud titen lug nut on stud until stud is all they way in place replace wheel and ur all done

The studs press out and in. Perhaps a hammer would work. Replacements studs can be purchased. Need to remove hub, of course.

1. get new studs and nuts
2.remove wheel
3. remove caliper at bracket to spindle connection(2 18mm bolts?)you may need to remove caliper from bracket,but not always nessacery. Or remove drum,then to #5
4.remove rotor,will need a hammer, tap inbetween studs dont wreck good studs and see if new studs can be installed without removing parking brake shoes. If there is no clearance to get new stud in you will need to remove shoes.
5.Pound out old studs place new stud in hole use a washer on outside then put a nut on and tighten to install stud, A air gun or some type of impact tool will be very helpful. Check to see that stud has enough threds to pull stud all the way thru ,add more washers if nessecary dont let the nut run out of threds it will **** to get back off and wreck new stud.
6. if you dont have air gun or feel comfertable removing brakes bring it to a reputable garage, shouldnt cost more than $70+ parts to get all new studs put in on one wheel.

Here's another thought - if the stud isn't too badly stripped, you may be able to use a re-threading die to restore the threads. The thread type and size will depned on the make and model of your car. An autmotive parts store can usually help with this.

If you must replace the stud,

A bad stud can usually be driven out through the back of the axle flange. You said the stud was stripped. You can:

Force one of the lug nuts onto the stripped stud maybe two to three turns , then take a drift pin and drive the stud out the back. The stud will have grooves that hold it in place on the axle flange. You willl hhave to hold the stud head with vice grips and remove the lug nut to get the stud out.

To install a new stud, insert it from the back, add a little grease to the knurls (grooves) and pull it into place with a lug nut. The stud must be firmly seated in the axle flange.

Studs often get damaged from overtightening or from cross threading a nut on the threads. A damaged stud is replaced by unscrewing it from the part and installing a new one of the exact same size.
Stud replacement can be difficult because the stud has often been in place for a long period of time. There has been constant heating and cooling, corrosion, and rust buildup between the stud threads and the internal threads of the part. These factors combine to make some studs very difficult to remove.
The first step in stud removal is to use penetrating fluid to remove the corrosion to free the stud from its mating threads. Soak the area of the threads with penetrating fluid. Allowing the fluid to soak into the threads overnight will make it easier to remove the stud.
Before removing the old stud, measure the distance it sticks up from the surface. This measurement will be needed later when installing the new stud. Use a 6-inch scale to measure from the part surface to the top of the stud. Write the measurement down so it can be referred to later.
A stud remove is used to remove studs. It is installed over the stud. The jaws on the stud remover grip the outside of the stud. A wrench fits on the stud remover and allows the technician to rotate the stud in a counterclockwise direction to remove the stud.
If a stud remover is not available, a stud can be removed with two nuts. Locate two nuts that are the correct thread size. To thread onto the stud. Start one nut and thread it all the way down to the bottom of the stud. This nut will be the drive nut. Start another nut and thread it down until it contacts the first nut. This is called the jam nut.
Put a wrench on the bottom drive nut and hold it in place. Put another wrench on the jam nut and tighten, or "jam" it against the drive nut. The jam nut will now hold the drive nut in position on the stud.
Now put an open-end wrench on the bottom drive nut. Turn the nut in a counterclockwise direction. Turning the nut in this direction causes it to want to unscrew the stud. Instead the forces cause the stud to unscrew.
When the old stud is out, inspect the internal thread. If it appears rusty or damaged, clean up the thread by running the correct size tap through the threads as previously explained. Compare the new stud with the old one. The studs should be exactly the same thread size and the same length.
Check the vehicle's service manual to determine if the threads of the new stud should be coated. If the stud should be locked in place and not easily removed, you may need to use a threadlocking compound or threadsealing compound. Threadlocking compounds are on studs and other fasteners when vibration might cause them to unscrew. Thread sealants are used when a stud extends where liquids, such as oil or coolant, could get on the fastener.
Antiseize compound is used on the stud threads to prevent the stud from reacting with the metal on the internal threads. If this happens, the stud could stick or seize. Antiseize compound prevents this reaction and makes the stud easier to remove the next time.
After the new stud is properly coated, it can be installed. Start the stud by hand, making sure it enters the threads securely. Turn the stud in as far as possible by hand before using any tools. Then use two nuts as described earlier to drive the stud into the part. Use the depth measurement made on the old stud to be sure it is driven in the correct depth.

Remove the wheel and the brake rotor, so that you can get a hand behind the hub flange where the stud is seated. You'll feel the head of the stud back there.

Use a socket extension or something similar, place it against the broken face of the stud, and hammer it out. It'll fall out behind the hub flange, and you can grab it and remove it (if it doesn't fall to the ground). Insert the new stud (available at a parts store for less than $3) into the flange from behind, and press it as hard as you can to get it seated in the splines. Then stack washers onto the stud on the outside, where you can see it, and tighten a lug nut onto the stud. Use your tire iron to tighten the lug nut on the stud - this will pull the stud into place. You may have to stop once or twice to add more washers onto the stud, but keep doing this until you can't tighten it any further and the length of the exposed section of the stud is even with the others. Then reinstall your rotor and caliper, put the wheel back on (torque it with a torque wrench), and you're done.
