Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T33 Digital Camera Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 09, 2011

Hi guys... I'm having the same issue with my Sony DSC-T33 as has been described here by many other people. I've done the Reset, and the Power Reset, online with the Sony Tech people. They say now it's a hardware issue and I'll have to send it in.......... NO MENTION of this known issue with the component part. So I bring it up and am told that is not in their database, so they don't know about it. What? I'm given a phone number for the "Customer Relations Team". Now in my online research on this issue, I see that Sony put a two-year limit on fixing this issue for free (free shipping and free fix). The other companies have no such limit. But my issue just occurred..... Is my next best step to contact the "Customer Relations Team"? Does anybody else have this experience? Any idea if they are going to help me or not? I feel so disgusted that Sony is avoiding acknowledging the issue and directing me to sound help; rather forcing me to do so at my own expense. This seems unethical at best. Thoughts? By the way, my issue is that camera powers on but screen is black, although the settings icons do appear in white, and I can review pictures in full color. This happened right after a battery charge. And it happened again on a second DSC-T33 cameras right after a battery charge. Thanks.

Sorry to say that Sony stopped repairing the faulty CCD's that were installed in their cameras for free two years ago. No matter what they told you, they DO know about it, as it is a well known issue (Sony actually produced the faulty CCD's that were installed not only in their cameras, but also in many of their competitors). And I do concur with your displeasure, as I similarly have a now useless Sony camera with the same CCD issue (cost a pretty penny too). And as you've noted Canon continues to repair their cameras with this issue, although they have started phasing out this repair for some of the older models. All I can say is, remember this the next time you're in the market for purchasing a camera. Definitely let it influence your decision. It did me (Canon, there is no substitute! ;-)

Its 2011 and my sony dsc-t33 screen is black..i have been reading that sony used to fix the problem do you know if they still do or do i need to try and find the part number and fix myself

Try a reset, take the battery out hold the power button down for 30 sec. then reinstall the battery. If that does not correct the problem the CCD chip has probably gone bad. Sony does not service the T-33 any longer. You will need to find another source to work on it. That is what I am in the processes of doing right now.

Sony DSC-t33 lcd monitor is distorted.Pictures

Hi!
It's a faulty CCD imager - a very common problem with the T33 - the imager has to be replaced. You can buy it from http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/toms.rammsteins and replace the CCD yourself (ask seller the instructions).
