My Printer will not print black. MFC 495cw. There is a new cartridge. I ran the cleaning with no success.

Do not try it on yor own unless you are a technician. Too many parts must be removed and counters have to be cleared and programmed. You might try calling brother, they will cover printhead replacement on certain models. Call 1-877-brother.

This is a common problem with Brother ink jet units. Cleaning the head will not fix the problem. Call Brother at 1-877-brother and tell them your unit is "missing black" on prints. They will probably cover this problem under a special warranty for this problem at no charge to you.

If this is an inkjet that the nozzle for black is probably clogged and needs to be cleaned with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

install fullfeature software

Check out if you've installed it correctly. Also check out other ink cartridges, are they empty? If yes you won't be able to print anything. However, if all ink cartridges are OK then try to reset the printer or reinstall the drivers. You can find help in MFC 495cw users manual

have you cleaned the ink ports

this happened to me, too. printer starting using all of my yellow ink.
The ink container was the problem, defective. it took several changes for it to print in black again...5-10 cleanings.
make sure the black cartridge is not defective by trying another one in it's place. if you can, use the yellow for the black slot, then switch back a few times ( I tried to re-install the drive, but the in was the problem). Good luck.

I assume that you inserted an new OEM black cartridge. If you are using aftermarket of refilled cartidges, change to an OEM cartridge.

- The machine cleans the printerhead and goes back to the Ready screen when finished.
If you clean the head 5 times and things don't improve, the printer should be serviced at a printer service center.
If you are using aftermarket or refilled cartridges the ink is typically not up to manufacter specifications and can gum up the printheads.

Use another new genuine (original brother) BK cart. Do the cleaning twice only for BK. Wait some time (4 hours). If the ink has dryed up, the cleaning ink will break up the dryed one. Do the cleaning again. If it doesnt work, please write again.
