The emblem on the front of the Kirby vacuum controls the installation of the belt. Rotate this emblem. ( I do not remember which direction it rotates). This relieves the tension on the belt. Replace the belt and rotate the emblem back to lock it in.

How to put a Kirby Vacuum belt back on New belt seems too short

To put on a kirby belt all you need to do is put on the belt on the brushroll, put the brushroll into the housing making sure the marks on the end of the brushroll are the same. Take the spin dial in the front and "hook" the belt till the dial reads off. Put the head back on the machine and spin the dial to "on".

How do I put on the belt for a Kirby vacuum cleaner?
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I have never come across the entire belt hook assm has come completely apart, but I have seem other people put the assm back together, but I would bring it to a local Kirby vacuum cleaner dealer in your area and if for some reason they cannot repair the Kirby head and hook assm they can order you a compete head totally repaired, but that would be choice #2 or feel free to contact your local Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Dealer to give you a breakdown on how to put it back together again. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
