Does not autofocus

Assuming you've made sure the auto-focus is turned on on both the lens and the camera, remove the lens, turn off the camera. Remove the battery. Wait about a minute. Put the lens back on, turn the camera back on . It's a computer basically. Sometimes it crashes. I've had this happen to me a few times.

The 18/55 mm auto focus lens stopped working

First, make sure that both the camera and lens are set to auto-focus. The problem is possibly as simple as dirty contacts between the lens and the camera's lens mount. Depress and hold the lens release button while you fully rotate the lens back and forth about ten times. The friction between the contacts on the lens and the contacts on the lens mount will clean the contacts.

I own a Nikon D50 and the 55-200 lens will not autofocus (lens continually extends then retracts but never locks into focus). Ive read that depressing the lens release button whilst holding the lens in...

Why don't you just clean the sensors properly? Remove the lens and clean the contacts on both the camera body and the lens with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. There's a 50-50 chance something else is causing your problem but try the cleaning anyway.

I am a beginner and cannot seem to get my lense of the camera, it feels like it is locked on. what shall i try do

Press and hold the release button (located on the camera body, next to the lens mount). Turn the lens counter-clockwise (approx. a quarter-turn, slightly less) and take it off.

If this doesn't work, please describe what exactly goes wrong (can't depress button, can't turn lens, etc.)

My nikon d70 wont focus at all

  • Make sure both lens and body are set for autofocus. There are two switches near each other with "AF" and "M" settings.
  • Check the camera's focusing settings, or do a factory reset (from menu) to 'start over'. Usually helps to have AF-Assist on.
  • Try setting the AE/AF-lock button (upper rear, near right thumb when holding camera) to turn on AF. The camera may respond better to this than half-pressing the shutter release.
  • Make sure the lens is fully attached to the camera. You shouldn't be able to rotate the lens without depressing the lens release button, and you should be able see a tight seal between the two.
