Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
when this type of error occurs the thing to remeber is that these ovens have a internal reset feature on it and when the door locks like this you need to reset it this is done by first unplugging the oven and leaving it for 1 hour minimum WITHOUT TOUCHING IT then when the hour is over plug in the oven and you may hear a audiable beep if so great ***note sometimes this beep will occure within 5 minutes of the oven being plugged back in so you may have to wait for it ok but if it doesent happen simply press the cancel button and unlock the door as you would normally would ok***
If this doesnot solve the problem you will have to manually open the door this is done by removing the lower drawer up where the door latch is there is a release tab that has to be tripped in order for the door to open ok if you can get your arm up in there you can trip it from there

If you've interrupted the clean cycle by opening the door and the latch engaged and now the door can't be closed, there may be a door activated* switch on the front face of the oven. In this case you may need to manually press that door switch while at the same time canceling the clean cycle to get the latch to retract so the door can close fully again.
This worked for me!!

SOURCE: Kitchenaid gas/convection stove oven door locked & won't open

F5 - E7 Self clean latch will not unlock

Remedy:

1. If door latched:

  1. Disconnect power from unit.
  2. Check wires and connectors from control to door switch, then from door switch to control. If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step C.
  3. Replace door switch.
  4. Re-apply power.
  5. Press and hold any key down for 1 minute to clear F5 failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.
2. If door not latched:
  1. Disconnect power from unit.
  2. Check wires and connectors from control to latch switch, then from latch switch to control. If no damage to wires and all connectors okay, proceed to step C.
  3. Repeat steps A and B for door switch.
3. Measure door switch (door open = switch open small low voltage terminals). Replace switch if defective.
4. Measure latch switch (unlatch = switch open, CAUTION - oven light contacts are closed). Replace switch if defective.
5. If corrections are made in any step, reconnect power to control. Press and hold any key for 1 minute to clear R failure code from memory. F2 will appear. Press CANCEL and observe for 1 minute to ensure operation is correct.
6. If failure remains, disconnect power and replace control.

Note: Applies to all F5-E... codes.

SOURCE: self cleanning oven - door is lock and I can not get it to open

if you open the lid on your stove, you will probably be able to reset the
switch manually (the latch).with the lid up its located toward the front
behind the safety latch.(by no means attempt to force, bypass,or disable this
switch)this is a safety feature designed to protect you from the high temps
generated by the cleaning cycle.hope this helps.thanx for using fix-ya
Try this, and let me know if it worked, I am trying to help someone else with the same problem, that stove is Model, 790

How do I get self clean to work on older fridgidare stove

Move the safety lock/lever at the top of the oven door to the right and press the self clean button on the oven control panel, it is an automatic cycle so it will lock the door from opening and then will proceed with the auto clean cycle. Good luck !

Oven Door Locked

the oven door does lock during self clean, otherwise it will not work. however, the door is supposed to unlock after the oven has cooled. if it is still locked, turn the oven to self clean and wait about a minute and then hit cancel and see if the door unlocks. if not, there may be a probelm with the door lock mechanism. Oven locked so I can't shut door/operate oven

Thanks a million, solved the problem like a charm. For those that can't find it, it is on the left side orf the OVEN, not the stove. Once you open the door, you'll find it on the frame's upper left side corner, can't miss it. Good luck
