To connect a LRA 2400 to a Lowrance HDS-5 sounder/chartplotter, you can run an ethernet RJ45 cable from your Radar Processing box to the HDS-5 unit. You will need an adaptor cable for the RJ 45 cable to hook into the HDS-5 head unit. This is part no 000-0127-56.
As for the different transducer pinouts, I am not sure what transducer you have now so I cannot say if there is any kind of converter plug available, however, the HDS-5 units do seem to run best using the transducers that are made for them. Your best option may be to buy the transducer that is made for them, and this will directly connect to the display unit.
Hope that helps!

According to you want to connect your HDS-5 unit HD radar. It is very easy, Just HDS-5 with radar and play it. It is a plug and play unit. But While Plug carefully see the port. If pin of the port does not match you can use a converter. for the exact converter visit Lowrance Marine Electronics website or contact dealer. To plug properly the both device you can follow the manuals.
Usually the HDS-5 and the LRA 2400 HD comes with various cables depending on the region which it is gotten from but usually it is meant to be plug and play but if they are gotten from different regions then there is a probability that you will need an adapter to get both working together.
The existing transducer if with different pin patters you can always get an expert to help you work the cables from the transducer to get a similar pattern as the HDS-5 because most rival companies use different pin patterns to ensure more use of their units so the only way is by getting a connection done.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
Since the items have not been delivered it is best to wait till they arrive before purchasing the NMEA cable. Because as i explained earlier the cable might not be needed but since the retailer is well known it is very likely he would send you compatible units which wont need any conversion cables.
As regards the transducer you would need an expert to do that as the wire coding could be different as well as you need the expert to determine the exact conversion kit needed for the job.
Please feel free to request further assistance and keep me posted of any development.

I purchased both items on-line (via internet websites) and have not gotten the radar unit yet, but it was ordered from a well known marine retailer. I have looked at the wiring diagrams and it looks like I may need a NMEA cable to connect the radar to the head (HDS-5) unit. Also, would I need to hire an expert to convert the existing transducer wiring to the new configuration or could I buy a conversion cable and do it myself?
Thanks, but your answers are very generic and really not very useful. As far as the units being from "different regions" I doubt if this is really a factor. When you buy a new product in the box, I am assuming that the products would be the same no matter what region you bought them from/in. I guess I will just wait until I receive the radar and see if it will work with the HDS unit or if I need to buy any adapters or additional items. I was just trying to see if I could get an inexpensive answer so I can be prepared when the unit arrives to have it ready to install.
I am not sure I am understanding your solution correctly, let me see if I am understanding you? The radar unit should simply plug into the HDS unit without any problem, correct? There is a converter that I can buy for the existing transducer to connect to the HDS unit, correct? Please advise me if this information is correct or if I have missed something. Thank you.
Thank you. This seems to be the answer I was looking for. I will try it and hope that it works.
