My LG projection tv (serial number 52sx4d-ub) won't turn on, an orange light flashes then turns red. How do I know if I need to change the bulb or the ballast? And how much does it cost to change the ballast?

The flashing green bulb light means the access door for the bulb on the lower right side of the TV is open or loose. There are two screws that hold it in. If they are tight, maybe the interlock switch is bad or disconnected. Open the door, and hold in the little white interlock button while turning on the TV. If it still doesn't work, there are wires leading from the switch to a connector about halfway across the TV on the bottom. Connector might be loose. Unfortunately, it is hard to reach. You might have to remove the screws across the bottom rear edge that hold in the chassis and gently slide it out to reach the connector.

well i know what the problem is... if your getting the white scroll and then the red light flashes but the fans are comming on and you got a new bulb the broblem is the ballast. i know cuz i had the same problem and a good friend of mine has a tv shop and i had him look at it but the good news is that its not that hard to change. if you try to go through LG thay wont be able to sell you the ballast if your just a coust. good news is that you can fined the ballast on ebay from easywaylamps its about $130.00 bucks shiped. bad news about is that thay are from china(it is where i got mine) but it works great and hasent gave me a broblem yet. if any one eles has the same problem and it was something eles.... If the red light scrolls through, you need to replace the bulb. I replaced the my own bulb, and when I tried to turn on the tv the light kept scrolling. What was wrong? I DIDNT FULLY REASSEMBLE THE TV AFTER REPLACING THE BULB.

Make sure that all the screws are put back in and it will probably work if you have replaced the bulb.

Depending on what light is flashing it could be a few things. If the Lamp light (the middle one) is flashing that is problem with or around the lamp. That orange or amber light is an indication that the lamp is reaching the end of its life

If it is the Temperature light (the far right one) then the TV is shutting down because it is over heating and you need to check the cooling fan.

its probably pretty close to time at 18 months and they often give no warning, I believe the orange light on an LG is just the lamp timer which really just counts hours. Pull the lamp out and look at it they often physically break inside and it is obvious
