Hello:
Your laptop's motherboard has an Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML video card. According to Intel's documentation, it does support TV-out functionality. You can use a VGA to S-video/RCA adapter like this one: http://amzn.com/B002OBDYJQ
You may have to enable TV-out functionality in your laptop's BIOS. Check the manual for your laptop for instructions on how to do this. Manual here: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/VGNFS600-A790.pdf
If this doesn't work, you will have to use a VGA to S-video/RCA converter like this one: http://amzn.com/B002R35IVY

To output video from your laptop you will need to use VGA out.

What you want to buy is a VGA to S-Video adapter, making sure that both the VGA and S-Video have male connectors.

This solution will not output audio.

Sony Vaio Model VGN-FS640/W does not show having a battery.

The main battery needs to be replaced, or the charging ciruit on the motherboard is not working, remove main battery get a stiff toothbrush and clean terminals in the laptop incuding the battery, if no change! check the device manager to see if battery is present, if no! reset bios to factory default.

Connected laptop to hdtv via rgb lead but no sound from 2nd monitor(tv)

Sadly, RGB cannot carry sound. In order to hear the laptop sound on the television, You'll need to get an 1/8" headphone connector to RCA (White and Red plug) cable and connect it to the same input as the video is plugged in.
