I have a Denon AVR 391 and its been acting up today. My sound is really bad. It'll go really loud - really quiet on its own. Is there a way to restore factory settings or anything? I'm scared to press anything to make it worse. I have the RC-1149 remote (its affected on all channells)

could be a bad headphone jack. There was a commong problem with denon receivers around that time where the headphone jack had contacts that would short and make the unit act like there were headphone plugged in even when there wasn't. Sometimes you can clear the error by inserting a headphone plug and unplugging it a couple times. If it continues to happen, then you can get the headphone jack replaced.

Does that same video source work ok on another Video input like DVD or SAT/CBL? Maybe the source or the cable is faulty.

may be there was some loose contact in ur receivers rear connections.thts why it produce the loud hum. use good quality inter connects. check is the all connectors are properly inserted or not.

Seems you cannot fix this issue yourself. If the unit is still under warranty, Denon will replace a chip which has a flawed firmware. The unit cannot be updated remotely and a physical repair is necessary.

Bad DSP board (digital signal processing board)- a common problem for Denon receivers. Hope you have a warranty.

Does it still power up for a little bit or so with no sound what so ever?....I there is no dents in it or metal pushed in causing cracked connector boards....I can take it off you hands for a couple parts I need ...because your transformer and 2 resisters are shot and it will cost almost as much as the unit cost's.

I do have a brand new never opend $649.99 Denon AVR-788 for $365.00.
