This sounds like a RAM problem.

Remove the current memory modules and blow out the slots with canned air.
Make sure that the RAM doesn't have any corrosion on the pins.
Now insert the RAM back into the slots. -Make sure that it is properly seated-

I this doesn't solve the problem, that you will need to get some known good RAM, and try that. If that still doesn't fix your problem, then your motherboard is dead, and you'll need to purchase a new one.

Hi,
Here are the beep codes with their meanings for the Abit BIOS. Listen your beep sounds and try to find your problem from the table below.

Basic Beep Codes for ABIT AWARD BIOS Motherboards

  1. No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board
  2. One beep - board is working fine
  3. One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU
  4. 1 short(Beep) System booting is normally
  5. 2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error
  6. 1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR
  7. 1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error
  8. 1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error
  9. 1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error
  10. Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly
  11. Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem
  12. A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages
  13. Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).
Good luck!

Check the the cpu, ram and video card are seated properly. If they all are, then the board is defective and will need to be replaced.

My bios speaker will beep on startup but nothing more. What avenue should I approach to get past this part of startup?

First you need to know which BIOS you have and how many beeps it is producing... these beeps are the POST - Power On Self Test. They tell us if there are problems such as missing keyboard, video card not working, memory faults etc...

Then you need to go to the appropriate BIOS site and see what the number of beeps mean.

If it is a single beep - it means all is well...
As you are not getting anything more you should check to see if the Hard Drive (HD) light flashes - if so - the HD is probably operating ok and loading your system but there is either a problem with your monitor or video card... borrow another monitor and see if that helps...

But it all depends on the number of beeps you get and what kind - long and short beeps (like morse code).

If this helped you at all please vote!
