Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, or the cost of repair is more than the value of the camera, they're worth a try.

Lens error usually comes up when something is impeding the lens from moving. Usually this happens when something has gotten stuck between the sleeves of the lens or if the camera was dropped on its lens, causing the sections to get jammed on an angle.
The best thing to do is to call a Canon Repair centre or 1-800-OK-CANON to have your camera sent in to be repaired. If the camera is still under warranty and the cause of the lens error wasn't your fault, you won't be charged for the repair. If it was due to customer error, you will be given a quote for the repair costs before having the work done.

When turning the power on my stylus 710 the lens comes out like normal but on the screen it shuts off to a black screen and doesnt allow me to take any pictures, I can't get the lens to go back in or able...

This type of problem can be caused by either a lens issue, or power problem. The following web blogs delineates things you can try to get the camera working again. They say about 50% of the time they can be fixed trying their suggestions:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
If none of those things helps, try these steps:

If the camera still doesn't work, you can take it in to a local repair shop, but get an estimate first. Repair can be high, and justify just going ahead and buying a new one.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

"Turn power of then on again"

It needs a little more than banging, so try this method

Get a can of compressed air OR acces to a compressor at your local garage Get them to fit the triggered air blower tool to it.

Blow around the lens in all the extension joins the firmly slap it in the palm of you hand with the side of the camera making contact with you palm. Do the procedure two or 3 times and inbetween the slaps turn it on to activate the lens mechanism. I have now fixed about 80 of these cameras with this method. I obtained the fix from Sony who charge $90 to do exactly the same. Keep at it as it will eventually work. One tip, make sure the battery is charged before you do this.

Camera wont turn on

If you bought the camera in January, it's still under warranty for a year. When you get home call 1-800-OK-CANON to arrange warranty repair. They're usually very good about it, and will try to make things right.

Dropped the camara,it turns on & everything works EXEPT capture button

Unfortunately, as you have found, the cost to repair these cameras is usually not viable, as it is cheaper to replace the camera.

Even if it is repaired, often the impact from being dropped can cause small fractures in boards or loosen the optics and while they may work ok now, can continually develop faults later.

My advice would be to replace the camera, as you will also get a new warranty as well.

Lenovo Y410 Integrated webcam not working

If the Y410 is like my Y510 then it is possibly one of two things.

1. If the computer goes into "sleep" mode, the camera may not come back online when it wakes up. A restart will obviously fix this.

2. Does your keyboard have a Fn key assigned to the ESC key that will toggle the camera ON/OFF? If so, give that a try.

Camera dropped, lens won't retract or expand

You sound as if you don't want to waste money on this camera. You could try to gently pull the lens straight. If it's leaning to the right then pull the lens to the left. Don't use brute force but it's possible to realign the lens this way. If it works you'll hear a click and the lens will look straight. Switch on and see if it retracts. I'd only use this as a last resort because you can cause additional damage if it's overdone. But believe me I've seen it done and I've done it myself with about a 40% win rate. bmw
