If the camera is connected to your computer with the USB cable, yes, you would need to turn the camera on in order to transfer the pictures to your computer. Basically, when your camera is on and connected to the computer in this manner, it is acting as a way for the computer to read the contents of the memory card that is inside your camera.

If you are on a Windows computer, you'd need to open "My Computer", and the camera will be shown as a device in that window-- double clicking the camera's icon will show you the folders and files (photos) on the camera. (Probably within a folder called "DCIM") You can drag and drop them on to your desktop or another folder on your computer if you wish.

SOURCE: trouble transferring pictures from camera to computer

First, Try and install the HP software again. Uninstall the software first and reboot the pc. Then reinstall software. The memory chip maybe have currupt pictures, so format the chip using the camera. You manual should tell you how to do this. Second, Turn the camera on and let the battery run all the way down. This may take some time, maybe a day. Then charge it back up for a day. I hope this helps you out. Let me know.

SOURCE: lost my usb cable

I don't know in which country you live (this is helpful to know!), but in most stores offering cameras and many offering electronic items, you should be able to procure a kit of adaptors that will include a cable to use with them.
In the US at least, Wal-Mart, Best buy, Circuit City and Radio Shack are likely sources.
Elsewhere (?) you are on your own.

SOURCE: have a new sony dsc-w120

OK,
Camera has small inbuilt memory that can store few pictures. You can copy these photos in memory stick by inserting memory stick in camera, go to Menu >> Copy >> Yes.
Memory stick stores many photos depends on its size and let memory stick in camera, hook it with computer and transfer photos from memory card.
Thanks.

How to transfer images from computer to nikon coolpix

I don't understand why you would want to transfer pictures from the computer to the camera. Normally you transfer pictures from the camera to the computer. But, if you really want to restore pictures to your camera's memory, you can remove the SD memory card from your camera and transfer the pictures on any computer equipped with an SD card reader/writer. These devices are built into most Apple computers, many PC's and are available as USB accessories for all other computers. I have seen them for under $20. When you connect the device and insert your camera's SC card, your computer will recognize the card and treat it as if it were another hard drive. You will be able to read or write or drag and drop picture files just as you would with any other file on your computer. By the way; most professional photographers use this method to transfer there photos rather then transferring them using a USB cable from the camera.

How to transfer photos from the computer to camera

Depends on the type of computer you have.
If your computer has a slot to introduce a memory card,
go to start, then computer and bring up the folder where
the desired photos you want to transfer are.
Copy the pictures.
At the "computer window," the memory card should appear.
Right click on it and choose paste.
I you meant to say HOW TO TRANSFER PHOTOS FROM THE CAMERA TO THE COMPUTER, insert the memory card into the computer; the computer should do it automatically, just follow instructions and choose a folder.
If the computer does not allow you to choose a folder, copy the memory card pictures and open a folder where you want to transfer the pictures, right click on the folder and choose paste.
I hope this info will help you.
Also, most newer cameras come with a USB cable, if you have it,
connect the cable to the camera and then the computer.
the pictures.

How do I transfer pictures from my Kodak camera to a disc

Install the EasyShare software. Locate the CD-ROM that came with your digital camera. Insert the disc into the CD drive on your computer and follow the prompts on the screen to install the software. If you no longer have the EasyShare CD-ROM, you can visit Kodak.com to download the software and then install it as normal.

Connect the USB cable to your camera. With your digital camera turned to the off position, locate the USB cable that was included with your camera and insert it into the appropriate slot located on either the side or the bottom of your camera, depending on the model number.

Connect the USB cable to your computer. With your camera still in the off position, insert the free end of the USB cable that you connected to your camera to a free port on your computer.

Turn the camera on. Once your camera is turned on, your EasyShare software will appear and it will locate your camera and sync it with the software. If the software does not begin, turn your camera off, wait 30 seconds and then turn it on again.

Select a location for your photos. Once your camera is recognized by the software, a pop-up will appear asking where you would like your photos to be stored. The default selection is the EasyShare folder but it can be changed to whatever location you would like.

Select your settings. Before being able to transfer your photos to your computer, you must select some important settings. These are important settings such as whether you want your digital camera to delete the pictures as they are being loaded onto the computer. You can also select whether or not you want your camera to automatically start transferring your photos as soon as the camera is plugged in. The options will vary depending on what type of camera you have.

Transfer your photos. Once all of your settings are selected, simply press the button that says transfer. Your photos will then begin to transfer from your camera into the folder you selected earlier.
