I just had a technician install this unit in my vehicle and everything on the unit works perfectly except for the sound. Is there a reason for this, and is this something that can be fixed without having a warranty?

If have factory amp you have to find the turn ou wre for the amp and hook it up to the amp turn on wire from the radio(bootleg way sound might cut in & out) or go to local sound shop and get a bypass for the amp
this an old thread, but yes there is an install kit containing a plastic extension that should be available from places that sell car stereos- wal-marts, car stereo stores, etc.
Have searched and searched and found out a few things about this HU. One question for you. Are you powering your subs through 1 amp and if so what amp is it?? Firstly the sub output only goes from 0 to -14 which isn't very loud. Secondly, there is one write up of a guy that says, "Hi i also own a VM9312, and the way you make the sub louder is by turning it off. To do this, you go to settings, then go to audio, and turn the subwoofer OFF. This is really weird, but it worked for my unit." Sounds strange but worth a go. And have you got the brake override working. If you need instructions and code give us a shout. Sorry I can't help anymore at the moment.
Check to make sure your vehicle does not have a factory amplifier. If you used a fit kit with wiring harness. try looking at how many wires were used in the factory unit compared to haw many you are using now. see if there are extra wires in the vehicle. If there is extra wires it is a pretty good clue the vehicle has an amplifier and will have to be rewired.
