I want to connect my Acer Aspire 5251-1513 to my Phillips HDTV with a HMDI cable to watch netflix on my tv, but when I plug the cable in to both devices, nothing happens but the sound goes out on the computer. I have tried all three HMDI ports on my tv and the correct channel/HMDI port selected.....What now?

According to the limited resources that I could find your only video output is a VGA port. Most newer televisions, predominantly LCD televisions will allow a direct connection via VGA. If your TV does not support VGA, can try using:

With these I typically recommend a full force converter over a cable, but often times cables will work. Remember that with a VGA to HDMI cable only, this will only pass video and not audio. You will need separate cables for audio.

Use either S-video or RCA connectors to your TV.

if your Acer laptop has an HDMI port, you need an HMDI cable to plug in your laptop to your TV.

You should just have to plug in the pc and tv with the hdmi cable and go to the input options on the tv and select either hdmi 1 or 2.

HDMI port on TV could have bad connections....happens sometimes when plugging and unplugging cable...machine soldered....bad weld!!!

Since, you're using a 15-Pin D-sub or VGA cable to connect the Computer to the PC-in on the TV, it's required to select PC input on the TV.

If you have an HDMI port you might also have an RGB port, use your tv video source button and go through your options. If RGB option is listed you have it. It's a standard moniter port, you can use a standard monitor cable to hook things up. This will not however carry sound so you'll need a basic 3.5mm size cable that ends in an RCA plug (can be picked up radio shack.

I use this method to watch hulu.com movies on my 50" plasma tv.

Another option if you have an "S" video on both the laptop and the tv, use that with just an "S" video cable.

Other wise look for a RGB cable that converts to standard RCA stereo plugs again Radio Shack should be able to help you. You can also buy cables on eBay a lot cheaper then a retail store.
