According to the Dell manual for this printer: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/a940/a940en1.pdf
It uses a A-B USB cable. These cables are quite normal and you should be able to find it in any computer shop.
Here is a picture of that cable: http://www.coolgear.com/images/UBAMBM-2M1.jpg
It is a standard USB cable with a type B tip that can be picked up at any electronics store for very cheap. As far as using it with a laptop, you can use this printer with a laptop through either a direct USB connection or via sharing your printer through the network.
I would check ebay for the power cord. just go and type in a940 power cord
Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if
the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop
apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you
will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.
If the DC Power Jack is bad, then eventually the battery is going to die and you won't be able to boot your laptop. If the dc power jack is bad, the ac adapter power cord can't charge the battery.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response
