The APC has sealed lead acid battery installed in the unit.
You can remove the battery from the bottom of the APC, replace the battery with the same voltage and Amp hour rating.

There are actually 2 batteries in series in the 1250. Replacements can be purchased from APC or other battery vendors online:
http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=APCRBC109
If memory serves, the access door is on the bottom.

There is a battery in the unit, which most likely needs to be replaced. You can find replacement batteries at a variety of retailers. To get an idea of price, search here. For documentation on your product, you can consult the guides listed here.

How to extract batteries from an APC Smart UPS 1400

greg milton, Hi, Did you get the top cover off of the "1400" battery back-up? How old were the batteries in the unit? My APC 1250 has two 12v 18ah units inside. It's best to replace batteries every 3 to 5 years! 12fixlouie

APC passes its self test but no backup

More than likely it is the battery. These units simply test the voltage during the self test, and, although not typical, the battery voltage could be good without a load, but fail with a load. 3 years is generally the life span of SLA batteries. Replacement batteries are fairly inexpensive and can be found at: http://batteryinternational.com/ups-batteries-apc-batteries.html

Have brand new APC 900 UPS and when plugged in, both green & yellow indicator lights flash. Non-stop. Left unit plugged in for 18 hours (off) to charge battery as info sheet suggested, but lights still...

Nope! The internal battery is not plugged-in correctly. Unplug the APC unit and open the access door to the battery (it is not dangerous to do).
Re-seat the two wire clips (red & black) to the battery. The positive post has a red mark on it.
Close it up and charge for a few hours before using.

If the symptoms continue, return unit to store.

Beep and yellow green light problem

It sounds like you may need a new battery. The batteries are continuously tested by the UPS and it could be that the voltage is passing one test, and failing the next which is resulting in the light flashing. You can test the battery with a voltmeter. It should read over 11.5 volts, if not you need a new battery set. You can get batteries from http://www.batteryinternational.com/ups-batteries-apc-batteries.html

Apc ups flashes red light to replace battery, but battery is new

i think by replacing the battery has not been the solution to the problem

u need to check the battery charging voltage when turned ON with main electricity, if no voltage present from charger, there is no question of battery getting charged and also once the battery is down with charge it may not re charge hence the indicator and alarm.

APC Smart-UPS 1500VA

yeppers...those APC units sometimes kick the monitoring software. sometimes you need to unhook the connection cables(like a reset) so that the firmware can 'unlock' which can cause that christmas tree effect on the panel lights.
