The easiest way to fix this would be to make a new new online account. To do this make a new user account on your PS3, then go to sign in under PlayStation Network, and choose to make a new account.

it is also happening to me my brothers account is working perfectly but i cant sign in it says when i go on to my account error 8002a203 it says it is under maintenance
I don't envisage any reason it wouldn't connect online.
The PS3 has both a wired and wireless connection.
Once he sets himself up as a user on the PS3, and a PlayStationNetwork ID, he should be be able to play online without any problems.
Are you sure your friend doesnt have any connection problems at home? Or try and change your account from sub-account to master account to invite friends to play online on ps3.
