I have a Mitsubishi rear projection Model VS-45607. Built in 2000 SN 109615. Has always had a great picture but now it is dim at power-up and a little too reddish. As it warms up it gets brighter and the color balance is better but still dimmer than it used to be. We really loved this TV and I an an electronics engineer hoping to fix it. Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated. Bill email [email protected]

SOURCE: Mitsubishi VS-45607 Picture flickers and dims

It could be a bad solder connection that opens up as the set warms up. It could also be caused by a couple of bad capacitors, C2p05 (100uf/16v) Located By Ic2p01 and check C2c52 (10uf/50v) Located near Q2c51. A technican will be able to fix it for about what you paid for it I suppose.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. MAY BE INTERMITTENT, SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK SOLDER CONNECTIONS AT CONNECTOR "DY" ON THE YOKES. 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK C411 2200 UFD 35 V AND C412 10 UFD 50 V, BOTH LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB.

You may have to replenish the fluid in the crt and be sure you have a good seal. This is an ageing tv...you may consider getting a new one. I don't blame you for trying to save this one...as the picture on this model is one of best!

Try Re-soldering the vertical yoke connections and vertical output IC. This is quite common with this model.
