Simplest Solution.
Works for all versions of windows.

Press the window logo and 'R' key simultaneously.

The Run Window will open.

Next, type 'winver' (without the quotes).

This will give you the version of windows installed along with the service pack and build details.

Right click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties. On the General tab (the first one that displays) your system information will be on the right. If you have SP2 installed, it will read "Service Pack 2" in the system information.

Service Pack 3 (SP3) is the latest update for Windows, so if you are still running SP2, you should visit http://update.microsoft.com in Internet Explorer and manually run windows update to upgrade to the latest version.

I can't install Windows Xp Sp2 For Compaq Presario Cq60 Model. a blue screen error occured after completing the files from cd to ram before entering lience agreement

You need to check your system ram or memory. If you have 2 system ram or memory unplug the other memory and install the windows xp sp2 again. If still having a blue screen try the other memory then run the setup again. Also if you have an extra hard disk drive you can test it that or plug your hard disk drive to the other laptop and run the windows xp sp2 using your hard drive. If you can install the windows xp sp2 on the other laptop that means your hard disk drive are good. If your memory and to the other laptop are compatible plug it and run the windows xp sp2 installer to see and to diagnose what are really causing problem. Have a nice day.

My computer Desktop is not running.

Hi hichris_4u

You should be able to replace the Explorer.exe. Type in the command prompt expand C:\I386\explorer.ex_ %systemroot%\explorer.exe This will expand a new copy to the windows directory.

You should also download a new version of SP2 and reinstall it. You also could download a clean copy of SP2 Click the Download button. The file is 266MB. Create a folder on the C:\ root called SP2 and download it there. Create another folder called SP2 files now at a command prompt type C:\SP2\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /x it’ll ask you to specify an directory so point it to the SP2 Files folder and let it extract there. Now type in the command prompt expand C:\SP2 Files\I386\explorer.ex_ %systemroot%\explorer.exe to expand a new copy to the windows directory.

If you get an error on destination, try expand C:\SP2 Files\I386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe

If you expanding fron the I386 from the C:\ root try expand C:\I386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe

If all fails, try and download SP2 onto another machine and then burn it to a CD for install.

Good Luck,

Mark

Upgrade the computer to SP2 and then check the firewall settings after the upgrade. Turn off the firewall and see if you can connect then. I you still have a problem I would check the computer for viruses with a free online virus checker or with Trinity Rescue CD.

Emachine sp2 prob

BIOS is unlikely to fail from a software fix such as SP2 but you may have too little ram or too slow of a processor to handle changes.
You may have to do a complete reinstallation of XP to set things right and then try the SP2 upgrade again.
Windows is unfortunately sometimes infuriatingly cranky and may require repeated installation before settling down.

Also, eMachines may have tweaked their version of XP in a way not compatible with SP2.
Check their website or MS Knowledge Base for clues.
