Click on START then Control Panel, double click the System icon and it should display the version of Microsoft Windows XP.
Right-click My Computer. Select Properties. In the window below your operating system version you should see if you have SP1 or SP2. If not, you can download SP2 here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

If you want to see what service pack you are running right click on my computer and select properties. on the general tab under system it will show what version you are running and what service pack is installed. Win XP is currently up to SP3
Click windows key with break key. See under General tab under the operating system details.
Simplest Solution.
Works for all versions of windows.
Press the window logo and 'R' key simultaneously.
The Run Window will open.
Next, type 'winver' (without the quotes).
This will give you the version of windows installed along with the service pack and build details.
Right click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties. On the General tab (the first one that displays) your system information will be on the right. If you have SP2 installed, it will read "Service Pack 2" in the system information.
Service Pack 3 (SP3) is the latest update for Windows, so if you are still running SP2, you should visit http://update.microsoft.com in Internet Explorer and manually run windows update to upgrade to the latest version.
