Did you add printer load the drivers for it? When you added it did it give you the option to do a test print? Did you? Did you use the built in Windows driver or load your own? What operating system are you using?.Have you managed to do a print by holding the button on the printer?

Scanning pictures and saving to compact flash card for sharing
You might want to try to be sure, but I believe the SD card slot is only for printing, not for saving images. You would have to have the copier hooked up to a computer or to a network in order to send the scanned images somewhere.

Plastic thin strip about 15" long has came off my HP1410
That sounds like the belt that moves the printer cartridge carriage back and forth. Unfortunately, you will most likely have to purchase a new printer, because repairs for that will be prohibitively expensive.

Can HP 1410 printer support LAN.
HP 1410 is not a network printer. If you want network printing, you must purchase a printer that features network printing.

You can designate a pc to act as network server and plug printer into that server, and then print from another computer on the same network

C4180 ON A NETWORK. BOUGHT A NEW LAPTOP AND WANT TO PRINT
Install the software on the laptop first and when it asks to connect the device, continue without connecting. Once finished, ensure the printer on the desktop is being shared in the printers folder. Then on the laptop add a device and search the network. If your 2 computers have the network established it should see it.

HP 1410 Printing Error
did you try scanning the test page after printing? this usually keeps the printer from reprinting the test page each time it is turned back on. Not sure about the paper jam.
