I would put money on the belt snapping. 5 years is about right. Especially if you do not use it often. The slow down and hesitate is even more indication of a belt getting hard and then slipping and snapping. They need to keep moving to stay soft. Get a new belt and you will be likely good to go.
Sounds like a short between circuit tracks, if you are confident you could carefully clean the circuit board, and spray switch cleaner at the switches and sockets and dab off excess. I personally would take it to my repair guy.
If the switches are being bumped off that would be obvious. Less obvious is that some people try to run these on rechargeable batteries... That is NO-NO as the voltage of the rechargeables is lower and after a short time the rechargeables degrade and will act as you are seeing. Use ONLY ALKALINE batteries. Another problem MIGHT be the battery connections are marginal and vibration breaks the contact momentarily causing unit to go off and stay off. Battery clips are a pain in these units.
What type of a musical instrument is this? It sounds more like an induction cooker than a musical instrument. Can't even find anything about this on Google... is there a brand name?
This is likely a failing switch under the pedal. Either the toggling mechanism is broken in it or if it is a momentary type it probably has "contact bounce" that exceeds the what the de-bounce circuitry can handle.
likely a failure in the power supply or in the final power amp stage. Keep putting fuses in to "cook" out more parts to increase the repair expense... DON'T !!! Take for repair as a fuse isn't going to fix the problem.
