My unit is pulling water from the basement air but it is not going into the bucket and is leaking onto the basement floor. Any suggestions?

Sounds as if the drain tube from the dehumidifier to the collection bucket may be clogged. Turn the unit of, unplug it and remove the bucket. With a flash light, look up into the rear of the cabinet where the bucket was. You should see a drain hole or short section of tubing. If you can see a clog, carefully remove it. If you can't see one. it may be further up the tube. Use some type of wire that is flexible, but yet firm enough to run up through the tubing or hole. Very very careful when you do this, as you don't want to puncture or damage anything.

The other option, if you have an air compressor is try blowing the clog back through the system, using fairly low pressure.

If all else fails, contact LG Customer Service (800) 243-0000

Testimonial: "I think this worked. Used two plastic zip ties snapped together and when I got around the 90 degree bend in the pipe water came pouring out. Thanks."

I just did this! I had to take the face off but once I saw the top of the drain I was able to pull the stubborn clog out. Thanks!

It can have leaks from the condenser to the bucket. The piping and hoses should be checked all the way. Perhaps even replaced or at least cleaned. I don't think it is wise to do this yourself. Because in the system also can be algae, bacteria and viruses. And you need tools and skills to replace defective tubes, pipes or gaskets.

Why does Frigidaire dehumidifier FAD704DWD send water outside unit?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FAD704DWD, is putting the water that it collects out onto the floor as oppose to the bucket. I suggest contacting the manufacturer for more information. They should be able to point you in the right direction for assistance. Hope this is helpful.

Amana D965e-e dehumidifier leaking

I encountered a similar problem (using the bucket, but still getting water leaking onto the floor) with my 970E-E. The problem is a design flaw. If the bucket is not firmly pressed into the dehumidifier, there is a slight air gap between the bucket and the dehumidifier on the left side. Within the gap, warm moist environmental air cools. Water condenses in the gap and pools up at the bottom of the bucket shelf, eventually spilling over onto the floor. You can check and see if this is your problem by pulling out the bucket and inspecting for droplets along the left side of the bucket shelf. My solution was the bungie the bucket into the shelf firmly so that there is no air gap.

Jeanne, unless your unit is what's called a "Low Temperature" unit (these are designed for basement application) , that may be the problem. In addition, the air intake filter may need to be removed & cleaned.

If yours is not a Low Temp model, raising it up of the floor onto a sturdy table or counter top that can handle the weight of the unit and a full bucket of water, may solve the problem. The reason for this is in a basement, the air temp at floor level is colder than at shoulder level. Non Low temp units struggle to operate at temperatures below 65 degrees. Raising the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table or counter top, that is strong enough to handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water, will usually resolve the problem.

I hope this information helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

My GE basement dehumidifier is overheating. The bucket still collects water and the fan works, but the unit is putting out alot of heat. My dad is visiting and has taken the whole thing apart. Any...

Yes, the first suggestion is I hope your dad can get it back together without any parts left over (LOL). Over heating is generally caused by an clogged or dirty air intake filter. Simply removing it and vacuuming it or if it's really dirty, washing it in warm water and mild dish washing liquid will clean it. Rinse it thoroughly, shake off excess water and allow to dry completely. Never operate the unit without the filter in place. Doing so, can damage the unit.

Getting back to the heat for a moment and where you're using your dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers do generate heat, it's not abnormal. Operating it in a basement can cause it to over heat. This happens because the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level. Dehumidifiers struggle in temperatures below 65 degrees F (unless you have a Low temp unit, designed for basement applications). Raising the unit up off the floor, on to a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that an handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water, will generally resolve the problem.
Actually, a basement application , higher is better.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

The dehumidifier is getting cold condensation on the top outside of the unit and no water in the bucket. Model BGD-510A. I cleaned the filter and the coils and still have this problem.

Kathryn, if you are operating it in a basement application, the problem is that air temperature at floor level, is colder than at shoulder level. Dehumidifiers struggle to work at temperatures between 40 & 65 degrees F (Unless they are Low Temp model designed for basement applications). And will ice up at times. Raising the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc that can handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water, will usually resolve the problem.

If it's not a basement application, try lowering the humidity extraction level to 35%. In you have an analog unit, turn the control knob to Maximum.

I hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

The rings on the back are turning to ice when i turn it on.

The rings on the back, that you are referring to are the cooling cools. There are several things that can cause this problem.

1. The air intake filter needs to be removed and cleaned.

2. Obstructed air flow. Maintain at least a 12" to 18" of clear air space around the entire unit.

3. The cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. You ca do this by wiping the of with a rag
moistened with warm water and then wiped dry. Then a apply a light coating of WD40.

4 The air temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level. This is particularly true in base-
ment applications. Dehumidifiers do not work well at temperature at or below 40 degrees F.
Unless it's a Low Temperature model, which are designed for basement applications. In your
case, if you're using it in a basement, raise the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table, counter
top, etc, that's strong enough to handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water.

Mechanically, there may be a small leak in one of the cooling coils, which is allowing refrigerant gas to escape and it's frosting the coils. If none of the above solves the problem for you, than I would suspect the refrigerant leak. In which case, it's less expensive to buy a new unit, than it is to repair it

I hope this helps you to troubleshoot & solve the problem..

I have an lg dehumidifier model # LHD65EBLY8. The bucket is full light keeps coming on even though it is empty. Because of this, it will not stay on and my basement keeps flooding. Do you have any...

booklover, if the the bucket is not properly installed, the unit will not turn ON. If you remove the bucket and look at the left top corner it, you will see a float device arm. It that's stuck in the UP position, jiggle the handle, so it will return to the DOWN position. In addition, that handle must make contact with the bucket removal safety switch, if not the bucket is improperly installed and the unit will not start.

Since you are using this unit in a basement, I highly recommend that you raise the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc. that can handle the weight if the unit, plus a full bucket of water. As the air temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level. The coils on your model will start to freeze at 60 degrees F and affect it efficiency, Because it is not a Low Temperature model designed for basement applications.

In addition to the dehumidifier, you would be wise to install a sump pump, if your basement floods as bad as you made it sound. Combining a sump pump with a dehumidifier will guarantee a dry basement, all the time.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.
